Suddenly a young woman approached the XO, wearing a security uniform. She had white-blonde hair, cut into a bob, and striking green eyes. Her ears were pointed and even though she was small in stature, she had a great presence around her.

“Commander, may I be of any assistance?” Duvosa asked, eyeing the XO curiously, one eyebrow arched.

-Lt. jg Duvosa, SEC

Commander Brooks immediately recognized the young woman from her personnel file photo as their newest security officer. One does not forget a striking face such as the one standing before her. “Yes, Lieutenant you can. As a matter of fact, our Chief of Security seems to have more important matters to attend to. This entire area is a crime scene and needs to be processed. Do you feel up to the task?” Amari made a mental note to inquire as to why the CoS had failed to report as ordered.

“You will report to the 2O Commander Walker. I am going to go to the deceased’s quarters to see if I can find anything that might give as some insight. When you are finished, contact the ship’s coroner to have the body removed.” Not only was this a big job, but it was also a big test. They would soon know whether Lieutenant Duvosa had the chops for the job.

-Lt. Cmdr. Amari Brooks, XO

Commander Brooks turned to go but stopped dead in her tracks. There was something inside her that told her maybe she shouldn’t go alone. She turned back around swiftly. “On second thought, Commander Walker, could you handle things here, please? Come with me to Deck Five Lieutenant,” she said to the young woman who had joined them. She shot a look at Walker that said, ‘something isn’t quite right around here.’

Brad nodded, and returned his attention to the machinery itself that had ended up embedded in Ensign “Shredded” Hart. Not the best time for a bad joke, but at least he hadn’t said it out loud…

Now, to see if he’d picked up anything from his engineer brother…

OOC: James, I’ll make a separate thread for us.

Oddly, there was no other DNA present. It was like nothing with DNA had touched the tool, even though the method of entry said otherwise.

“Bloody marvelous,” Brad told the air, before closing the tricorder and crouching down next to the body to investigate the coil with his eyes, looking first at the end not embedded in a man’s chest.

Was it broken, and if so in what fashion?

The tool was intact and showed no signs of damage.

“Hmm,” Brad said aloud. “Now how does one go about hovering a piece of machinery designed to support an entire section of duranium alloy hull in midair at precisely the height needed to puncture a man’s heart, then shift it as he falls, doing further damage, without leaving a trace, and in the space of less than 10 seconds…”

He scanned it for any residual indication of having recently been transported.

OOC: Just so there is no confusion, the brace coil I’m referencing was shown in the TNG episode phantasms. It basically looks like a squiggly knife about 20 centimetres long. Ref: https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Phantasms_(episode)?file=Troi_knife.jpg
IC:
There was no sign of being transported, but the what was curious was that while there was blood on Hart, there was none underneath. None of the pooling that one might expect from a stab wound through the chest. The brace coil had effectively blocked some of the blood from escaping the top of the wound, but where was the rest?
