After her necessary medical and psyche evaluations were completed, Duvosa made her way to her new department head’s office. She was curious as to how security might be handled on a smaller ship, as she’d never served on one of this size before. Also this was her first posting on a medical ship, something she was still having to adjust to.

She reached the COS’ office and rang the chime.

-Lt jg Duvosa, SEC

No voice was heard in reply with the customary ‘Enter’, however the doors slid open after a short moment. Through these doors the room was small, as was to be expected in a vessel of this size where Security wasn’t a front and foremost department. As small as the room was, the man standing behind the desk seemed to fill it. He wasn’t overly tall although over 6 foot, but his broad shoulders and clearly filled Security tunic meant that his presence was unmissable.

As the doors opened, the man looked up and acknowledged Duvosa with a hand gesture to enter. His other hand holding a PaDD. “Come in Lieutenant. Duvosa, yes?”

Lt Vanhall, CoS

Duvosa walked in and gave him a nod. “That is correct. I have completed all my necessary check ins with medical and counseling. Now I am reporting to you as my department head, sir.” She stood with legs apart, hands clasped behind her back, staring straight ahead.

-Lt Jg Duvosa, SEC

“Welcome to the Ogawa, Duvosa,” Rico said, his voice strong and pleasant enough. He turned and placed the PaDD on the desk, revealing the personnel file of one Lt j.g. Duvosa on the screen.

“Take a seat,” he said, and without waiting turned his chair around slightly and sat down himself, taking a drink from a glass of water before he continued, and then taking a small handful of almonds from a draw and popping one in his mouth. “Tell me about yourself, something that isn’t on the personnel files about you being a top markswoman or skilled in martial arts combat. Tell me about my new Security Officer.”

Lt Vanhall, CoS

The woman in front of him seated herself as he spoke. She looked at him curiously, one eyebrow arched. “I am part Romulan.” She said dryly, looking at him dead on, her face had grown blank.

-Lt jg Duvosa, SEC

Rico paused for a moment, raising his eyebrow. He wasn’t sure if what she said was a joke, or if she was being serious. “You know that’s on your personnel file, right? They didn’t actually miss that in the Academy or your service so far. Is that answer supposed to reveal something or just hint that you are a terrible conversationalist?”

Lt Vanhall, CoS

The woman stared at him blankly for a few moments, then a slight smile crept onto her lips.

“A poor attempt at humor,” Duvosa said. “Talking about myself is not my favorite subject.” She paused. “I am not the best at conversation, I will admit. I prefer to keep to myself for the most part.”

-Lt jg Duvosa, SEC

Rico nodded and popped another almond in his mouth, he could understand that. Crunching the nut for a few moments, he swallowed before replying.

“That might be a little tough on this ship,” he said, smiling lightly himself. “We are a small team for a small medically focused ship, barely more than a handful of Security staff so we tend to be more involved than most Officers in our roles on larger ships. Keeping to yourself might isolate you more than you think here.” Now Rico grinned a bit wider. “Then again we are on a ship full of Doctors and Psychiatrists, you’ll probably spend more time hearing them talk about themselves.”
