IC: Commander Brooks rang the chime to Ensign Hart’s quarters and waited to see if there would be a response. “Yes, it does. And we may not find anything. But I thought it was worth a shot. I believe a witness has been taken to security, so if we don’t find anything here, that will be our next stop.”

There was no answer to the chime.

“May I?” Duvosa asked, walking over to the door chime. She moved her tricorder in front of the small device, checking for any evidence of tampering. “We may have to use your command override to enter.” She stated.

The door was locked, but showed perfectly as it should be.

There was a beep and a click and the door slid open.

=^= All hands, this is the Captain. Due to an unforeseen course correction we have found ourselves in a spacial anomaly that we are seeking to rectify. We also seem to have somehow picked up some extra passengers. If you encounter anyone you do not know please notify the bridge immediately. All Duty Personnel report to your stations, civilians report to sickbay. Section and Department heads take stock of your staff and report to the bridge.=^=

CO“Odd,” Duvosa mused, after the message from the Captain came through their comm badges. Without waiting for further instruction, she turned on her heel and marched through the now open doorway to Ensign Hart’s quarters. Her tricorder was already out and scanning, while she did a sweep of the room with her eyes.

Commander Brooks followed closely behind. Since Duvosa was already scanning with a tricorder, Amari scanned with her eyes to see if anything looked unusual or out of place. “Steady as you go Lieutenant.” She refrained from mentioning that she hadn’t actually given the order to proceed. This was not the time nor place for a reprimand.

Inside, the studio quarters were pretty neat and standardly small. Hart seemed to be a pretty tidy person and there was only a jacket tossed over the back of a chair and a pari of boots by the door. Otherwise, everything was tucked away and even the bed was made. There weren’t a lot of personal effects given he had just come aboard recently, but there was a framed picture of him with two much older women, one of whom shared a strong resemblance.

Duvosa ran her tricorder over the jacket, scanning for any residual DNA to confirm who might have worn it last. She pointed to the framed photo.
“His mother?” She asked aloud.

“Possibly,” Amari muttered. She picked up the picture. Did she recognize either of the women? She couldn’t recall. She barely recognized Ensign Hart, having only seen his corpse prior to this.
=/\=Commander Brooks to Bridge, we are still investigating Ensign Hart’s quarters, but in light of the recent new information, I doubt we are going to find anything. Returning to bridge.=/\=
She turned to leave but stopped in her tracks, suddenly feeling very connected to the Ensign. She felt sorry. Sorry that he had to die in the manner in which he did. All members of Star-fleet were prepared to give their lives in the line of duty of course, but that was not this. How would they ever be able to tell his family that he died so needlessly? Solving this mystery was the only thing they would be able to do to provide anything like comfort to his parents.
