Ana found herself appreciating the simplicity of Duvosa’s statements, although from the perspective of completing the required aspects of a boarding evaluation, it meant that it was drawing it out slightly. “What do you do when you are not doing your job?” she inquired.
Lt Darren, Psychiatrist
“I often find myself developing my martial arts skills,” Duvosa replied. “I try to stay fit and active. I also do a fair bit of reading, mostly history and keeping up to date on Federation policies and active missions.” The woman paused, looking at Ana curiously. “What things do you like to do when you are not working?”

Ana listened intently to Duvosa’s answers, noting that they were primarily focused on her career goals and not as much on rest and relaxation. She made a mental note to follow up further with the officer and began to contemplate some suggestions when she realized that Duvosa had turned her question back on her. “Um, I read a lot,” she offered, hesitantly. “Research studies, mysteries…” her voice trailed off as she flushed slightly. “I like romance novels too,” she finally added. “Do you have any hobbies that aren’t directly related to your career?”

Duvosa stared at her for a moment. “No.” She finally said, flatly. “I have always found subjects related to my career path to be quite enjoyable. I prefer to spend my time pursuing things that will help me to grow and better myself.” She paused, her eyebrow arched curiously.
Ana paused a moment, wondering precisely how to handle this train of thought, as her goal was to push Duvosa to consider outside pursuits. She was contemplating what she could suggest when…
“By your mention of romance novels I assume you are single?” She asked bluntly.

Ana’s lower jaw dropped open and it took her a few moments to pick it up again. Her fair skin blushed a light pink. “Well, um, yes,” she responded, not sure what else to say for the moment. It was true that she hadn’t really had much time for interaction with the opposite sex. She much preferred her research. Her black eyes narrowed slightly as she collected herself and she fired back, “and you? Are you single?”

Bump.
At the question, Duvosa’s lips curled up into a smile and she let out a soft chuckle. “Yes.” She said. “I have not found a suitable partner. Although on my last ship there were a few that were suitable for a night.” She paused, grinning once more. “Or two.”

Ana’s pale skin flushed a delightful pink at Duvosa’s response as her slight brush of annoyance rapidly developed into bashfulness. She bit her lower lip reflexively and swallowed audibly as she gathered her nerves to continue the line of questioning. “Do you wish to find a suitable partner for a more long term arrangement?”

Duvosa shrugged her shoulders casually. “Perhaps. I don’t think such things can be planned out so. It would be something that would have to occur naturally, don’t you think?” She gave the woman a wink, her lips curled up into a slight smile, before her expression returned to its more neutral one, the slant of her eyebrows almost making it look as through she were angry.
