A Short Time Ago:

The U.S.S. Ogawa hung in space at station keeping. In a blinding flash of light, the U.S.S. M’Benga dropped out of warp 25 Kilometers to the Ogawa’s starboard side. As it approached the larger ship, the M’Benga cut impulse and drifted into place parallel to her. A few bursts of her maneuvering thrusters and she came to a complete halt just beside her. From a distance, the ships looked serene and calm but like any federation vessel they were efficient hives of activity, always busy, always in motion.

Aboard the M’Benga, a small group had gathered in transporter room one to bid farewell to their newly promoted Lieutenant, Dr. Poosh Bandoo. The Ool Cyberneticist was wearing a sleeveless service tunic that showed off his matte grey and black cybernetic right arm. He was very proud of that arm. It was his eighth, and the first that he had designed himself. It was quite literally the reason he had become a doctor. Hatched with only a vestigial stub for a right arm, he had grown up intimately familiar with cybernetic medicine. It was only natural that he end up in that field. The arm was his one point of vanity. It would have been simple to give it a synthetic skin, but that would disguise his handiwork. It wasn’t vanity, but pride.

They said their farewells, exchanged well-wishes and, all too soon for all involved, Poosh stepped onto the transporter pad. His vision filled with a blurred wash of sparkling light. As his sight cleared, the Ogawa’s transporter room came into focus. He exchanged pleasantries with the ensign manning the controls and made his way to the nearby turbolift.

He stepped out onto the bridge and crossed to the entrance to the briefing room. The doors slid open with a quiet hiss and he stepped inside. He recognized the four officers seated at the table from studying the crew manifest before he came aboard. Captain Taylor, Commanders Brooks and Walker, and Lieutenant Darren. He smiled slightly and stood straighter. “Doctor Poosh Bandoo reporting for duty.”

Ooc: Yay! Friends reference! I wonder if we should make that a thing…hmm Also amazing first post!!!

Ic: Willow stood in one fluid motion from her place at the table. Her short red coloured bob bounced slightly as she stepped forward and extended a hand to the new commer. “Doctor Bandoo,” she said smiling warmly. “Welcome to the Ogawa. Please have a seat, can i offer you something to drink?”

She returned to the chair she had vacated. “Please allow me to introduce my crew. Commander Brookes our first officer, Doctor Walker our chief of staff and Doctor Darren our recently promoted Chief of psychiatry.” She indicated each officer in turn.

Ana shifted in her seat uncomfortably and gave a brief nod to the new addition. Realizing that she should probably be more forward than that, she also got to her feet and extended a hand. “Doctor Darren,” she said in way of greeting, barely giving Bandoo a chance to return the gesture before sinking back down into her chair.

Brad also stood, and pointedly offered his left hand to the new arrival.

“Welcome aboard, Dr. Bandoo,” he said. Truth be told, he was looking forward to having an assistant who’d actually speak with him. Ally had been supremely qualified and great at the job, but they’d hardly said two words between his arrival and her departure.

Commander Brooks smiled as she waited as each member of the crew greeted the newcomer. “Dr. Bandoo, I’m Commander Amari Brooks. So happy to have you on board.” She extended her hand. And indeed she was happy for it meant she was no longer the newest member of the senior most staff. The Brooks family had settled, found their place, and Ogawa had become home. “I hope your journey here was a pleasant one.” She said, as she returned to her seat. The brown poof-ball hair never wobbled, and her bright friendly smile in contrast with her dark skin never faltered.

-Lt. Cmdr. Brooks, XO

Poosh shook hands all around. His hand was cool to the touch but not cold. The internal power source and the movement of the mechanisms kept it sitting at around room temperature. He took his seat, his short stature bringing the tabletop to armpit height. Putting his arms on the table would have been a bit uncomfortable so he folded his hands across his belly. “It was bittersweet. I hated to leave my friends behind, but this was an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up.” He smiled serenely which, because of his fist sized brass colored eyes, made him look pointedly wall-eyed.
