Cai was kneeling on the floor with his mini PaDD connected to an access panel. His fingers flew across the screen entering code, he glanced up as if making sure drake was still keeping watch, “ok....What are we changing it to?” He asked

Drake tried to think as he would have when he was 16. A wicked smile crossed his face. “Jarvis’ 19th century surgery.”

Cai grinned and quickly did as he was bid. He added some detail, a few blood soaked patients and gore. “How about surgery meets zombie apocalypse.” He said and entered the commands. The computer took the program changes and hastily he began to unconnected his mini PaDD.

“Stay hidden.” Drake whispered to Cai as he saw CE Pierce approaching. “What are you doing here? It takes two to fix a holodeck?” Mark’s nostrils flared. “There’s only one engineer present.”
The boy nodded and did as he was bid.
“That’s… not the case. NE Jackson went in a bit ago.” Mark stormed in and saw a 19th century operating room turned into a scene from Frankenstein as a dead patient began to stir. NEs Jackson and Prentiss were standing up against the back wall, dressed in bathing suits. “Is this your idea of a joke, Jackson?”
“No sir. I was using the holodeck, and-“
“SHUT UP!” NE Jackson made himself as small as possible. “I received a call about this holodeck malfunctioning. When I arrived, I was told you had gone in earlier, and based on what I see now, I can only hope it is still malfunctioning. Two weeks, you will be in Jeffries tubes or under the floor. I will send you out on every minor repair. If the water pressure in the Captain’s toilet is too low, that’s your problem. You will not be unaccompanied on your repairs, but you will be unassisted. Officers will be present to make sure you do your job. Perfectly. Get started.” He tossed Jackson the repair kit he had been holding. “Sir I’m off duty.” Mark had started to walk away and continued along his path saying only “Guess how much I care.”
When Mark emerged from the holodeck, he assured Drake that it would be repaired shortly. When the CE was gone, Drake returned to Cai. “That went well.”

Cai had bit down onto his lip ring to keep from laughing. There was part of him that felt sorry for the old guy. A minuscule small part but a part none the less. He gave Drake an appraising look. “You know…you aren’t actually that bad. I mean as far as adults go.” He added.
