Two NEs deposited the remains of Ens. Branson Hart on a biobed in the medlab, activating a stasis field around the body before leaving the room and sealing that behind them as well.

After having had his own ‘specimen’, the young surgical intern, unceremoniously taken beyond the reach of his cold hands, Dr Jarvis had been skulking around secondary sickbay in a dark mood. All the serious injuries had been dealt with and the minor ones spoken for. Leaving him with little to do until some other hapless sod walked through the doors of secondary sickbay. He did not have to wait long. From a far corner, he watched as a corpse was carried in by two ensigns and then sealed within medlab three. That was interesting, he thought as the pair of delivery men left. The dead were usually put in the morgue. He waited until no one was watching and strode over to the door; it would not open for him.

“Blast,” Dr Jarvis muttered under his breath. Did the crew members on this damn ship purposely conspire to keep the interesting medical issues from the individuals who were best suited to handle them? He scuttled off to wait for someone with enough pips on their collar to come and open the door.

Half an hour later, Brad walked back into Secondary Sickbay and headed for the medlab, stopping in front of the door and entering his access code to unlock it.

It had been a while since he’d last done an autopsy, and he idly wondered if he should rope in Jarvis to assist. The man would probably relish the chance to dissect another human, even if it was only a corpse…

Walking in to the medlab, he looked to the bed where Ens. Hart’s body rested, surrounded by a sterile field.

OOC: Anything or anyone out of the ordinary, Linds, or should I just get on with it?

Lt. Cmdr. Dr. Brad Walker
Chief of Staff

OOC: Thanks for the bump. Pneumonia sucks. You can go ahead, but go super slow because you will learn big things here and they are important. :)
IC:
Hart lay there, his chest un moving, though his skin had not paled as much as one might have expected after a few hours since death.

OOC: I can do super slow :)

IC: “Well, let’s see what we can find out about you,” Brad said, walking over to the biobed and ordering a full, deep scan of Hart. It would record how much blood he had left in his body, whether or not he had any mind-altering substances in his system, and the presence of any foreign particles on or inside his body.

bump

Jarvis watched as the Commander entered medlab three. Of all the rotten luck, it had to be Walker who had come to do the autopsy. The only thing worse would have been if the Captain herself had graced secondary sickbay with her presence. However, she had a ship in crisis to deal with so that remote possibility had dropped to zero.

He rolled his eyes before pressing his comm badge, =/\= Dr Walker, do you require assistance with our friend in there? =/\=

Dr J. Jarvis M.D.

When Brad heard the obsequious tones over his own comm badge, he wondered if the universe had heard his idle musings of a few moments ago. He was quite tempted to brusquely brush off the inquiry, but something stopped him. Sure, Jarvis was a pain in the neck, and all things considered he’d rather have him anywhere else but his ship (preferably quite a few parsecs away, in any direction), but this could be an opportunity. Gods knew the man knew more about the things violence could do to a human body than probably anyone else on the ship, his input could be quite valuable, and it could be an opportunity to build a bridge, however rickety.

=/\=I don’t require assistance, but if you’re offering, I’ll be glad for the company if nothing else,=/\= he replied. =/\=I see you at the door, one second and I’ll let you in.=/\=

Since the scan was still running, he crossed the medlab and set up a sterile field around the door that would remove any particular particles from Jarvis as he crossed the threshold, then unlocked the door.

The scan showed three notable oddities: One, that there were definite traces of tachyon particles on and in Hart’s body. Two, while none of his systems seemed to be functional, for some reason there was a barely perceptible amount of energy in his cerebral cortex. It wasn’t quite enough to result in the action potential required to generate a brain oscillation (or brainwave), but brain function did not seem to be entirely nil. Thrid, and perhaps even more strangely, was that Hart’s blood had not coagulated. It wasn’t pumping, but it was still potentially functional.

“Well, now,” Brad said, returning to the biobed holding what he’d thought was Hart’s corpse. Now, he wasn’t so sure. “This is damn peculiar.”

Could the Losa character, when manifesting, have materialized in the same pocket of space-time already occupied by Hart? If that was the case, and they’d had some sort of merger, could that have shut down Hart’s body? It didn’t account for the stab wound, or the resulting damage, but honestly, with a good enough surgeon, who Brad had to admit was just about to walk through the door, it wasn’t inconceivable that Hart could be revived…

Dr Jarvis strode into the medlab and took in the corpse of Ensign Hart and the readings displayed on the biobed. A smirk formed on his thin lips. At last, something interesting. He turned to look at Brad. “It seems you have a Schrodinger’s Ensign, Commander,” he said. He pulled out his tricorder and began to examine Hart’s wounds to determine the cause of ‘death’.
