NE lipscotte saw Woods smack his head stumble about and then wander aimlessly. So she dialed up a glass of water and offered Woods a seat. “I hit my head like that all the time. When someone calls for you whem your in a confined space looking up is normal. It’s a wonder we Engineers don’t end up with more head bumps than the Klingons.”, she said offering Woods the cool but not cold water, “You might want to get that checked out. But I suppose as your in command of the deck you can’t really leave. Should I ask sickbay to send a nurse down?”, the totally unremarkable Lipscotte asked with some concern.

NE Lipscotte. Engineer.

The lieutenant grunted something about not being the first or the last time something like this would happen to him today and waved a dismissive hand. “Yes well I am fine. I am sure the nursing staff have better things to deal with than a clumsy man’s mistake.” He grinned a little bit then looked around, “Where is that Caitian Ensign? I thought she was supposed to be dealing with something…”

Lt. Woods

NE Lipscotte looked about and finally shrugged, “Youl’d think someone that big would be easy to keep track off.” She said as she moved in to check Wood’s scalp. “Tsk, a bump and likely some soreness, but I guess you’ll live.” , she said dismissing her earlier concerns. “Guess it’s up to you to solve the problem.” She said as shexreturned to monitoring reactor outputs.

NELipscotte. Engineering.

Woods frowned and narrowed his eyes towards Lipscotte, “Why would she go and do that? There is a problem to be solved is there not? And to be clear I am not entirely sure what that problem is much less what has been attempted to fix it…” He looked to the consul and began pulling up files, “Can you get here back here please, Miss Lipscotte? I don’t like waiting when there are problems to solve.”

Lt. Woods

NE Lipscotte finished marking gdown her readings , “I an not qualified to interpret the motivations of non human personnel. As for why we can’t form a warp bubble I can tell you that it’s not a power systems issue. We are actually running at higher than normal efficiency.”, and she looked up reasons for the increased efficiency, “Ah thats what M’Nalie’s been doing. She has been replacing every power relay that was damaged or operating at less than peak efficiency for the last three days..”, and she frowned, “Actually for every shift for the last three days.”, and she looked at Lt Woods. “I wasn’t aware Caitan’s could go that long without sleeping sir. I know she usually does a twelve hour day. Like most of engineering I assumed she was bucking for a promòtion. Nobody likes a keener makes people doing their normal jobs look bad. Oh and I hear they called security on her because she got in a fight with the new councilor.”, NE Lipscotte said warming up to the topic now that rumors and gossip was the subject.
Even on a ship with as small a crew as the Ogawa the rumor mill was a primary source of entertainment for the crew and NE Lipscotte was a dedicated hub on the rumor mill.
“Oh here it is.”, she said, having found a relevant entry, “Ensign M’Nalie Ehenti found unfit for duty by the ships councilor.”, and she hrmm’d, “She started working imediately after this was filed and only just logged off duty.”, and she looked up at Woods with a shark sencing blood in the water type of look.

NE Lipscotte. Engineering.

Woods arched his eyebrow. “I am not sure, ensign, if we should be talking about the unfortunate health affects of being Catian,” he said in a low tone as he tapped a few buttons on his console. “Right right well anyway. We will need to figure out what we need to know about this little anomaly before it gets out of hand. Hmm.”

he processed a few more tests and waited for the computer to come back with any results he may need.

Lipscotte turned attention to her console as well. “So what do we know and what we need to know sir? I wonder if Sciences knows anything useful about the space we are stuck in?”, she asked Woods

NE Lipscotte.

So far, what they knew for sure was that in this subspace bubble they were dealing with an area of space that did not act like ‘normal space’ and was completely unpredictable. The ship could manage to move at impulse, but forming a warp bubble seemed out. They were currently in the middle of the large bubble, with the ‘edges’ dangerous to go near (see: https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf3/ogawa/notes/41205/). While they clearly needed to get out of the bubble, the question was how. They got in somehow. So how did they now get out without tearing the ship apart?

Woods tapped his badge with a frown, =/\= Woods to CE. Do we have any additional information from science as to what this bubble is? I am assuming throwing the ship in reverse isn’t going to cut it.=/\=

He looked over to Lipscott and shrugged, “It is worth a shot, right?”

Lt. Woods.

NE Lipscotte shrugged, “He kinda dumped this in your lap . Probably because he’s as frustrated with trying to figure it out as your getting to be. “, and she frowned at the console she was working on. “We can’t form a warp bubble. We don’t know why. It’s not the equipment as every indicator says nothing is wrong with the warp drive or the warp field generators or the reactors. IN shot everything is just plain as normal as normal gets except that it doesn’t work. We got into this area of space, Have they tried going to max impulse and just trying to get out that way. We took some bumps and bruses coming in but a day of repairs and we are in better shape than we were coming in. If we are in a sphere it would have the same weakness as a egg. It’s tough to break fom the outside but easily broken from within. Also is something generationg this anomily? Has anyone scaned for some tech device that may be producing this field? Maybe it is like a mine meant to discourage pursuit by collapsing the warp field and we were just unlucky to run into it.”, she said sounding frustrated. “I mean isn’t figuring out puzzles like this Sciences job?”

NE Lipscotte. Engineer.

M’Naliearrived back in engineering after resting and tried to log herself on duty but the system refused her. As she had suspected the councilors declaring her unfit had finally caught up to her.. Ah well she couldn’t log her hours or even take credit for anything she did while locked out but short of security stopping her or the CE giving her a direct order nobody was going to stop her from working. So she headed over to Where Woods and Lipscotte were and said, “Is forming a warp bubble still our primary task?”, in her deep bass rumble.

Ensign M’Nalie Eshenti. Engineer.

NE Lipscotte had been studiously trying to find something, anything that read as wrong on the displays and hadn’t found a thing. As far as she could tell absolutely nothing was wrong and there was no reason that the warp field shouldn’t manifest and that annoyed her. Which moment was when M’Nalie spoke startling her. “Aaaa! Do you have to always sneak up on people?”, she said peevishly.

NE Lipscotte. Engineer.

M’Nalie blinked at Lipscotte, Looked amused and shrugged. “That does not answer the question.” M’Nalie replied flicking an ear and adding a touch of a purr to her tone.
“Have you solved the problem or not?”, she queried again.

Ensign M’Nalie Eshenti. Engineer.

Lipscotte looked over at Lt. Woods with a look that said you deal with it. And went back to running diagnostics that kept giving the same results as they had hours ago. Everything was fine mechanically. The problem was something outside the ship. Something that Sciences ought to be looking into. She had said as much and been ignored. So all she could think about now was that her shift had ended a hour ago and s3he was starving.

NE Lipscotte. Engineer.

Mark arrived back in engineering. “What do we have? I need estimates on available warp and impulse velocities.”

-Lt(j.g.) Mark Pierce, CE

M’Nalie looked up at the CE. “Impule should be able to bring us to .75c cruising or .80c if we push the system. Faster wile possible causes severe time dialation the closer you get to c.” She of course figured she wasn’t saying anything the CE didn’t know already but complete answers were a habit she couldn’t shake. She did manage to not explain that c was the speed of light She rumbled on, “We have made no progress on getting the warp field to stop collapsing. We put in a call to sciences for help but they haven’t replied. At this point sir every diagnostic says everything is perfectly fine mechanically, there are no faults in the power systems, I changed every power coupling that was at less than perfect efficeny. So I think I will go EVA and see the emitter itself if you approve doing so.”, she rumbled as her ears and tail flicked or waved in frustration.

Ensign M’Nalie Eshenti. Engineer.

“It’s a good idea, but hold on Ensign. We’re going to try to navigate out of our current situation. =/\=Engineering to bridge. We have impulse power at .75c. Helm controls were restored.=/\=

-Lt(j.g.) Mark Pierce, CE

Scott just hung back letting M’Nalie and the CE kibitz. He reviewed the PaDD in his hand but otherwise said nothing. Propulsion not his specialty, after all.
