It was the night shift, secondary sickbay was quiet and Drake was signing some reports to finish his day. An engineer stumbled up to him. “I hope, for your sake, that you’re sick.” The engineer didn’t even notice Drake’s horrible remark. He clenched his stomach with one hand. My abd… abdomen hurt for a couple days. It went away. Then I started throwing up and it hurts like hell.” Drake stared for a moment. “Idiot.” He grabbed a tricorder to confirm the diagnosis he had already made. “Your appendix burst. You’ve been mixing toxin stew in there for a couple days.” He called for an OR to be prepped. And then realised Jasper Jarvis was on call that night.
