Brad took a sip of his tea, nodding in agreement with the advice.

Ana remained quiet in the conversation, but felt a shiver go down her spine at the mention of the dentist that had terrified her in her office shortly after she had joined the ship. She studied Poosh curiously, not familiar with his species in Starfleet before. From a scientific standpoint, it was fascinating.

A slight flicker of the lights. Fleeting, one of those moments where you need to take a second and think if your brain really did process that or not. Normally in such circumstances the brain decided no it didn’t as nothing else happens and you move in with your day.

Today was not that sort of day. As the brain reorganised for those present at the corner of the table between willow and Brad a towering 7 foot cowled figure remained. The shadow hadn’t so much as rescinded as formed the figure who’s billow black robes seemed to contain a depth that made no sense to the average in looker. This macabre fashion was ruined by a short sleeved teal medics tunic over the top. It made the billowing sleeves look almost comical.

It spoke. But the grinning skull’s mouth did not open or move. Rather the noise that would have been spoken word seemed to bypass the listeners ears and arrive at their brain without any in between. It was a tone like two heavy tombstones rubbing together.

COWER BRIEF MORTAL… it started then stopped I MEAN…WAIT BLAST WHAT WAS IT ALBERT SAID I SHOULD SAY. GOOD AFTERNOON?? the figured moved and it’s robe caught on the side of Willow’s chair. It paused and looked down perplexed. AHH CAPTAIN, WOULD YOU BE SO KIND.

Joe Black
DDS

As Black appeared and then spoke, Ana jumped several noticeable inches in her chair and then pressed against the back of it in something akin to a cower. A few moments later, she had forced herself back into an upright posture, although her normally pale features were even whiter than normal as she quietly sat at the table, clutching her two hands together until her fingernails were biting into her flesh.

Willow choked slightly on her tea. She quickly regained composure and hurriedly unstuck the dentist. “Of course Doctor Black. Please feel free to join us.” She said indicating the chair furthest away from her.

Poosh opened and closed his mouth several times as he searched for the words to address what he’d just seen and heard. He settled on: “So. Dentistry.” and smiled nervously. He ran his tongue accross the backs of his teeth, trying to remember if he’d spent enough time cleaning them that morning.

-Dr. Poosh Bandoo, ACMO

“Yup,” Brad said, tightly, taking another sip of his tea and carefully not reaching for the headache-relief hypospray in his coat pocket. Having words shouted directly into his brain was decidedly not good for his head.

Ana found herself running her tongue along her teeth as well with Bandoo’s comment, but she knew that she had cleaned them a satisfactory amount. She had made sure to find out the precise amount of time she needed to spend on dental hygiene at an early age and kept it as an integral part of her daily routine. Unfortunately, that did mean she would eventually need to see Black for an exam, she realized, a wince crossing her features before they returned to stoicism.

Chief of Staff

Poosh was glad to see that he wasn’t the only one discomforted by the huge dentist’s presence. It actually made him relax somewhat. He gathered his composure and faced the entire group again. “So, does anyone have any questions for me? I know my species is rare in Starfleet, you must be curious about something.” He smiled genially.

-Lt. Poosh Banddo assistant CMO

“My main curiosity is the arm, honestly,” Brad said. “How did you come to need a prosthetic?”

Lt. Cmdr. Dr. Brad Walker
Chief of Staff

Ana had been trying to think of some kind of polite question to encourage professional discourse, realizing that it was likely expected in this situation, but Walker’s direct question saved her from her misery. She focused her black eyes on Bandoo curiously, taking a quick moment to glance at the prosthesis before returning her attention to his, um, face.

Darren, CoP

Dr Black seemed genuinely pleased to be invited to sit, he walked to the offered seat his feet clicking as though he wore heels under his billowing robe. He sat and seeing Willow was now not paying him attention turned his skull to look at the newcomer too.

Willow and creepy dentist

Poosh reached over and pressed a few well hidden switches in the deltoid-region on the prosthetic. Internal mechanisms whirred as a rod extended from the middle of the shoulder. It clicked to a halt and the arm went still. He took hold of the rod and pulled. The arm came away from the shoulder leaving only a dermally implanted ring of metal where the cuff of the limb made contact, and a metal socket protruding from a stump where an organic arm would attach to a torso. He flexed the stump once or twice and reversed the process. As the rod started to reinsert he spoke. “I was hatched with only one arm. Once I left the pools I was fitted for a prosthesis. As I grew, I had several arm replacements This last one,” he flexed the fingers of the arm as the rod seated home. “I’ve had for 10 years.”
