=/\=Engineering to bridge. We have impulse power at .75c. Helm controls were restored.=/\=

-Lt(j.g.) Mark Pierce, CE

The computer dutifully listed out the information about Starbase Hospital: The Next Generation. The list of regular appearing characters were as follows:

Commanding Officer: Captain Jo McMahon
Executive Officer: Commander Reece Jorralix
Chief of (Medical) Staff: Commander Erika Cruz
Assistant Chief of Staff and Head of General Surgery: Lieutenant Commander Markus Hendricks
Head of Orthopaedics: Commander Intsu Riidra
First Year Intern: Ensign Kiara Mercer
Chief of Psychiatry: Doctor Reesha Amoni
Chief of Security: Mariss Reach
Engineer: Lieutenant Amor Losa

Cadet Damiselle was listed a recurring guest character through six episodes in the first and current season. Her role was as Security Officer (In training).

The soap opera drama was a spin-off from the very popular Starbase Hospital and featured an entirely new cast and setting. It was only recently released and is in its first season, with 25 episodes. The next season is already in production.

The general storyline follows the Chief of Staff and her doctors as they interact with fellow officers and the civilians that live on the starbase. The hospital is is the main function of the base, though there is an exploration and defence wing as well.

The soap includes many beloved tropes and the stories are often over the top, if not outrageously unbelievable. But its fan base continues to grow.

Duvosa walked quietly onto the bridge and took her spot at the tactical station. While it wasn’t one of the larger systems on the ship, there was still a security officer required for Bridge duty. She pulled up all the weapon and shield systems and ran a diagnostic, making sure everything was working within parameters.

Casting her eyes around the Bridge, noticing the First Officer in the center chair. Duvosa maintained a keen eye on her station, while being mindful of everything else going on around her.

-Lt jag Duvosa, SEC

The NE helmsman answered the order, “Aye, Ma’am. Setting heading at 73 Mark 21. One quarter impulse.”

“Engage,” Brooks ordered. She ignored the soap information for the time being. She had a feeling she would have plenty of time to look them over.

The NE helmsman engaged the engines.

“Lt. Duvosa, anything on sensors?”

  • Lt. Cmdr. Brooks, XO

The ship moved along, and while the subspace bubble was fairly large and at impulse would take them ages, they were just near enough the dangerous edge that they wouldn’t be spending months trying to get there. But the closer they got, the more gravitational forces were at play and the eddies alone could do significant damage. There was also a rise in the detectable levels of tachyon particles.

~Mischief Maker

“Report,” Amari called out.

The NE helmsman answered, “We are moving along Ma’am, but if we get much closer to the edge it could get bumpy.”

“Lt. Duvosa, where are those sensor readings?”

-Lt. Cmdr. Brooks, XO

Tressex, who had been so engrossed in trying to decipher… well, everything… finally spoke up. “Sensor readings indicate a rise in tachyon particles and gravitational sheer. I’m trying to see if there is any pattern to the gravitational fluctuations… maybe something akin to a tidal effect.”

Tressex, CSO

“There are your sensor readings,” Duvosa said slyly, partially under her breath.

Ooc: welcome back James! ~ Cale

There was no discernible patterns. If anything, the space inside the subspace bubble defied patterns and expectations. Things developed and dissipated without warning and it would only take colliding with one eddy to spell the end of the Ogawa. That didn’t mean they couldn’t create their own effects and perhaps push some of the distortions out of their path. But they were simply moving too slow to traverse this space safely and would have to have significant more available power in order to even attempt such a action.

=/\=Pierce to bridge. I’m not going to be able to hold the ship together if we punch through the barrier of subspace. We need to find an existing gap.=/\=

-Lt(j.g.) Mark Pierce, CE

=/\=Understood. Trust me, Lt Pierce, I am not the one to ‘punch through’ anything. I don’t want to be the one to dent the captain’s ship. What’s your status down there? =/\=

“Helm, adjust course as necessary so the we run parallel to the sub space edge, instead of directly at it and increase speed to 3/4 impulse.” They were not likely to find an existing gap, but they could run along scanning any way. Moving, even fruitlessly, was much more appealing to the XO than just sitting still.

“Aye, ma’am,” the helmsman answered, “adjusting course.”

“Duvosa, continue scanning and keep an eye out for any openings. Moving along the edge is at least better than just sitting still doing nothing.” The logic seemed sound to her, but she wasn’t a scientist, not in the general meaning of the term. She was a doctor, damn it… or… at least she used to be. Now if the subspace bubble were alive, that she could handle.

Commander Brooks turned toward Lt. Duvosa and addressed her directly. “Have you watched this particular ‘holo-soap’ Lt.?” Amari probably fit within the stereotypical profile of a soap opera fan, but she never really had the time. Schooling, then being a doctor and a mother had left little time for leisure activities and what she did have, she certainly wasn’t going to waste on a soap.

Duvosa looked directly at the Commander. “No.” She said flatly.

“Maybe it’s time we see what all the fuss is about.”

=/\=Computer is there a highlights reel or,=/\= What was the archaic term she was looking for? =/\=a trailer available? If so, play it on the main view screen.=/\=

Brooks returned to her seat and crossed one leg over the other, looking amused as she wondered what the captain would think if she caught them watching soap operas on the bridge.

-Lt. Cmdr. Brooks, XO

The computer dutifully replied and it seemed the episode the captain had been watching went a bit like this:

-the show opens with Commander Cruz and Lieutenant Losa engaged in a bit of secretive PDA in a turbolift as they continue an affair they assumed no one knew about. But in reality, Erika’s ex, the Starbase’s Chief of Security Randall Hughson, had found out and was rather jealous. The turbolift doors open and though Ericka and Amor had separated in time, they find themselves gazing at the COS who eyes them and all three know that this will not go well later. Erika and Amor step out and walk nonchalantly down the corridor.

  • In Operations, a distress call is detected from a small freighter nearby with a medical emergency. Dr. Cruz, their newest intern, Dr. Kiara Mercer and a security officer head out in a runabout to go to their rescue. But suddenly it seems like the runabout has hit something and the trio finds themselves in a subspace bubble where space isn’t reacting the way they expect it to and they are essentially stuck for the moment.

-back on Starbase Tranquility, Lieutenant Losa is found dead by a brace coil. Evidence initially points to the COS and Hughson is questioned but so far he has an alibi that checks out. The crew continue to investigate.

-In Operations, they also realize they have lost contact with the runabout. They detect tachyon particles and can trace the the edge of some sort of subspace disturbance that sensors can’t pierce. Surmising correctly that the ‘bubble’ in their path is the likely location of the runabout, the crew also work to mount their own rescue mission.

-then proceeds a series of twists and revelations (Dr. Mercer discovers she’s pregnant but she supposed can’t be!). The autopsy of Losa reveals that it was definitely an intentional blow and not an accident, but there seems to be a lack of evidence as to who had committed the crime. Hughson is released after there wasn’t enough evidence to hold him for the crime, though there are hints that he in fact did do it.

-on the runabout, they determine that the only way through is to punch a hole but use the deflector to cut a hole in the barrier to make the passage easier. They weren’t able to make the hole very big, so used high impulse to get through and punch open the barrier, admitting the runabout to regular space. Significant damage was sustained but the three survived and were rescued by another runabout from the base.

-the show closes with Erika finding out about the death of her lover and vowing to destroy to person responsible. A rather cocky Hughson knows he’s so far gotten away wth his crime. For now…

As far as sensor readings, Duvosa would note that there were areas that had less distortions but the subspace bubble still needed to be punctured, though they might be able to get a bit closer. It would, however, increase the risk of suddenly being struck by a gravitational eddy.

~Mischief Maker

“This is supposed to be entertaining?” Duvosa asked, arching one eyebrow. “We could get closer to one of the areas where the distortions are more minimal, but there is still some risk. If Science could figure out a way to penetrate the sub space bubble that could prove beneficial.”

-Lt jg Duvosa, Sec

Mark emerged from the turbolift. “Engineering is working on viable options. We don’t have much in the way of options, but… we’re doing what we can.”

-Lt(j.g.) Mark Pierce, CE

NE Watchesthis looked over from her station and raised her eyebrows at Duvosa, “Hey I’ve seen that episode…” she said somewhat defensively. “It is entertaining…well it was.when we weren’t like you know, living in it.”

=^= Engineer M’Nalie to Chief Engineer Pierce. We are all set here sir. She’s as prepared as she can get. But we have to exit at a spot that has already been comprimised. If we can locate where we entered in the first place thats likely our best chance. Projections indicate that if we try to exit at any spot that has the barrior fully intact we will not remain intact on the other side.=^= e Eshenti. Engineer.

Willow appeared on the bridge at that point, “can we locate such a compromised point?” She asked the bridge at large. “Even if not our original entry point something that may give us a chance at breaking through.”
