Zoi watched Erika’s body language with a keen eye. That was something worth noting. Was she acting this way out of sadness or was she about to make sure the mostly part became completely? Her hand strayed a little closer to her phaser.

Dr Jarvis scowled. Even though Walker had just complimented him, this was no time for chit chat; they had a patient to save. He picked up the laser scalpel and with unnerving precision, cut a perfect incision in Ensign Heart’s chest. “Retractor,” he said firmly, taking it on trust that Walker would comply.

Brad did so reflexively, idly musing about how long it had been since he’d done a nurse’s function. He too was keeping an eye on the interloper, and had a second laser scalpel within easy reach. It wasn’t a phaser, but he was a doctor.
