“So did you come down here just to ask me that, or were you doing something else down here and I just happened to be conveniently nearby?” Brad asked. He’d gotten the impression that Cai didn’t particularly like Sickbay. Understandable, for someone of his age, particularly for someone as accident-prone as he seemed to be, but he also didn’t look particularly sick or injured.

Cai chewed the lip ring. “I was watching Drake in surgery, he kinda made me think about stuff and whatever.” He shrugged. “You know Will, it was a logical avenue to venture down.”

Cai

Brad nodded, taking in the new information. Honestly, he didn’t know what to think about it. If Cai was developing an interest in the medical field, there were certainly worse role models on board than Drake Marshall. There were also several better options… At least it wasn’t Jarvis.

“What did you think of the procedure?”

Cai shrugged. “It was kinda kool i guess.” He accidently bit his lip and frowned. “I dont like the sounds…in sickbay. He didnt use the frame.”

Cai

Brad grimaced. “We’re just months away from the 25th century, and my surgeons all want to act like it’s the 15th. In a modern sickbay or hospital with normal doctors, it’s much quieter, and cleaner.”

Cai shrugged. “Still don’t like it, spent too much time as a patient in it then Waiting around the sickbays etc with Will.” He pushe DH is hair out of his eyes. “What’s the deal with Marshall and Jarvis anyway?”

Cai

Brad grinned. “That’d be more a question for Lt. Darren,” he said. “I don’t know if it’s professional competitiveness, or personal antipathy, but they certainly don’t seem fond of each other. And on Dr. Marshall’s part, I can understand that, because I don’t think there’s a single person on this ship apart from Jarvis that’s fond of Jarvis.”

Cai frowned. “Will said I was to stay away from him. His files classified with a security restriction.” He raised an eyebrow.

Cai

“She’s right to say it,” Brad replied. “That said, while his file might be restricted, you could probably get a good idea as to why by doing a search of the news feeds from about a decade or so ago. It got a good bit of coverage, if I recall correctly. The best terms would be ‘Jasper Jarvis experiments trial.’“

He took a sip from his coffee mug.

Cai frowned watching Brad, “What did he do? Like what sort of experiments?”

Cai

“Cardiovascular, muscular, genetic,” Brad began. “Basically anything he could think of to improve both his own abilities and the people he operated on, with very nebulous consent.”
