The rest of Ana’s shift had passed quickly as she reviewed the various messages that she had received from Ogawa crew and added notes to the files of her patients that she had seen recently. Before long, an alert dinged, informing her that it was 1830. She briefly pondered if she should return to her quarters to change out of her uniform, but she decided that it was not necessary in order to engage in her meal with a companion. She did take a moment, however, to run her fingers through her chin-length black hair, and then tucked it neatly behind each of her ears, out of her face. She rocked to her feet moments later, smoothed her uniform carefully, and made her way to the lounge.

Seeing that she was the first of the pair to arrive, Ana settled into a table for two near a window and scanned the other crew gathering to enjoy a meal, content to people watch until Duvosa made her appearance.

Dr. Darren, CoP

“Hello there,” A sultry voice said from off to Ana’s left side. Standing there, holding a glass of a dark liquid with a few ice cubes in it, was Duvosa. She had on her duty uniform and looked rather the same as she did when she had been in Ana’s office. However, there was a little bit more softness in her face, and her lips were curled at the ends ever so slightly into what appeared to be a small smile.

Taking the empty seat across from Ana, Duvosa sat, sipping her drink. “Good to see you again.”

-Lt jg Duvosa, Sec

The more welcoming presence of the officer briefly took Ana aback as her dark eyes rested on the woman, enough so that she shifted slightly uncomfortably in her chair. “Yes, it is good to see you again,” she responded and then stared down at the ice cubes oscillating in Duvosa’s glass from the movement. Taking a deep breath to steady her nerves, she glanced back up at Duvosa again. “What are you drinking?” she asked, forcing herself to slow down her typical hurried speech pattern.

Dr. Darren, CoP

“This is some kind of spiced rum from Risa,” Duvosa said, giving a shrug. She took another swig. “It sure beats Romulan ale. I never did get a liking for the stuff.” She looked over at Ana, her eyes squinting slightly, assessing the woman. “You appear nervous. Perhaps you’d like some?” She held out the drink, offering it to Ana.

Ana’s lower jaw dropped open to protest the implication and to explain her distaste for alcoholic beverages and the cognitive impairments they provided, but she closed it shortly thereafter and instead offered a nod to Duvosa. She couldn’t help but admit that the Romulan was correct: she was quite nervous. Maybe it was worth a sip to see what the spiced rum beverage tasted like and she certainly didn’t need to be concerned with any kind of inebriation with just a sip. She caught her lip between her teeth briefly and then forced herself to confirm her response verbally. “Yes, I would like to try some,” she responded, holding out a hand to take the drink from the woman.

Ana looked down into it for a moment, her focus again drifting to the ice cubes in the glass, before her eyes flicked back to Duvosa momentarily. Somewhere, she had a concern about drinking from another person’s beverage, but she was sure the alcohol content would handle any afflictions that might be shared. She put the cool glass to her lips and took a small sip, barely wetting her lips with the rum. She quickly set the glass back down and then ran her tongue across her lips, further tasting the sweet, spiciness of the flavored rum. A look of delight and surprise crossed her features as her gaze snapped to Duvosa. “I like it!” she exclaimed in surprise.

Darren, CoP

Duvosa smiled slyly. “Well good.” She could easily sense the other woman’s nerves and was pleased to see her trying something new.

She took the glass and downed the remainder of the drink, signaling towards the bartender to bring two more.

“So how did you become interested in the mental health field?” Duvosa asked. The bartender appeared at the end of the question, setting two drinks on the table and then scurrying off.

Ana’s dark eyes widened as she watched Duvosa finish her drink and then signal for two more. There was a big difference between a small sip and a drink of her own, she thought anxiously for a moment, watching as the bartender went to prepare the beverages for the women and then his path from the bar to their table. She stared again at the ice cubes and the liquid rippling around them following the impact on the table for a few seconds. Not looking up, she commented simply, “I was a child during the Dominion occupation.” She reached out for the glass and moved it in a small circle on the table, enjoying the distraction of the flow of the liquid. “It affected everyone differently and that interested me.” With a small sigh, she picked the glass up and took a hesitant sip, more than she had from Duvosa’s glass but not enough to truly feel any burn from the alcohol content. “How did you become interested in security?” She tried to remember if she had asked that during her appointment with Duvosa, but right now, she just couldn’t remember.

Darren, CoP

Duvosa gave a shrug of her shoulders. “When I was a kid I got bullied in school. I finally grew tired of it and started training myself how to fight when I was 11. I learned many different combat styles and mastered most weapons by the time I was 14. Those bullies never bothered me again.”
