Side Sim - USS Ogawa Moorings - Repair Check-In

Posted April 26, 2020, 9:34 p.m. by Chief Petty Officer Oscar Cameron Cascarrabias Demalia (Engineer (Grouch)) (Nicholas Villarreal)

Oscar was back in his isolation suit, and he was quite happy about it. He had been ordered to replace all of his uniforms, so he wasn’t quite appreciative of the fact that what he was wearing something so crisp and new. He knew he wanted to break in the uniform more, but it would have to work for now. Whatever the case, he had had quite enough of the crew the previous evening, what with all the back slapping and a very confusing speech from the Commanding Officer. He knew that he probably should have reported to his superior first, but since he was technically on shore leave, he was avoiding that interaction for as long as he could. Instead, he decided to take some initiative and see what had happened to the McCoy-class vessel.

As he stepped in through the airlock, one of the maintenance technicians at Starbase 157 looked a bit shocked. He stopped what he was doing and got a very panicked look on his face.

“What’s going on? Is there some sort of biohazard on the ship? Do we need to evacuate? Am I dead already and don’t know it yet?” The man was wearing Engineering overalls, and a rank insignia that called him out as an Ensign.
Oscar inwardly grinned, but kept a stoic face. “In order - I’m a new Engineer assigned to the Ogawa, so I was coming to check out the vessel before it got too crowded. I’m the biohazard, so yes, there is now a biohazard aboard. You only need to evacuate if a lack of decorum causes medical issues. And your rambling would seem to point to the fact that you’re still alive, even if I imagine that some people may not actually like to experience that fact in person on a regular basis.”
The Ensign took a breath, then looked at Oscar more closely. The look of worry turned into a glower and said, “Chief Petty Officer, I outrank you - a little respect is in order.”
“As I said, if you have a physically negative reaction to poor decorum, you’re in trouble,” CPO Cascarrabias said. “Still, a sitrep would be nice, all the same. You starbase types always screw up something with these kinds of repairs, and I’m usually one of the guys called on to patch things once we gut underway.”

The Ensign, who had yet to give his name, simply shook his head, muttered something about Orions, and stomped off. Oscar actually smiled this time.

“Well, that’s one day made worse, and I’ve only been here for…” Oscar checked his chronometer. “Well, okay, not a record, but still, three minutes isn’t bad. Now, let’s see what this holographic over-the-top drama did to the Ogawa…”

Oscar went to the nearest terminal he could find and went to pull up a systems status menu.

(Oscar Cascarrabias, Engineer)
