“So how did you become interested in the mental health field?” Duvosa asked. The bartender appeared at the end of the question, setting two drinks on the table and then scurrying off.

Ana’s dark eyes widened as she watched Duvosa finish her drink and then signal for two more. There was a big difference between a small sip and a drink of her own, she thought anxiously for a moment, watching as the bartender went to prepare the beverages for the women and then his path from the bar to their table. She stared again at the ice cubes and the liquid rippling around them following the impact on the table for a few seconds. Not looking up, she commented simply, “I was a child during the Dominion occupation.” She reached out for the glass and moved it in a small circle on the table, enjoying the distraction of the flow of the liquid. “It affected everyone differently and that interested me.” With a small sigh, she picked the glass up and took a hesitant sip, more than she had from Duvosa’s glass but not enough to truly feel any burn from the alcohol content. “How did you become interested in security?” She tried to remember if she had asked that during her appointment with Duvosa, but right now, she just couldn’t remember.

Darren, CoP

Duvosa gave a shrug of her shoulders. “When I was a kid I got bullied in school. I finally grew tired of it and started training myself how to fight when I was 11. I learned many different combat styles and mastered most weapons by the time I was 14. Those bullies never bothered me again.”

Outwardly, Ana showed very little reaction to the information about Duvosa’s past, but inwardly, her gaze on the glass of alcohol in front of her had her pondering whether it would be rude to simply knock it back at this point. She closed her eyes for the briefest moment before taking another small sip. “That sounds difficult,” she finally murmured. She pushed the glass in a circle again before her deep black eyes met the Romulan’s. “Maybe you could teach me something some time.”

Darren, CoP

Duvosa raised an eyebrow towards the other woman. “What is it that you would like to learn?” She had never really taught anyone any kind of martial arts skills, but she supposed it could be something she could give a try.

Ana fiddled with the glass in between her hands, unsure if she had somehow upset Duvosa with her request. She looked down again at the liquid, noting that the ice cube in it had changed size slightly over the course of the conversation between the two women. She looked up again at the Romulan and shrugged, trying to impart a certain level of nonchalance in the action. “I only have the basis that I was taught at the Academy,” she began, finding stability in her voice as she spoke. “It seems like something that is important to you. I would like to know more about it.”

Darren, CoP

Duvosa nodded. “That is a noble ambition. I have always thought of taking up the study of an area that is outside my normal field of expertise.” She paused. “I achieved higher than average marks on just about every subject on the preliminary courses we are required to take at the academy.” A small grin crossed her lips. “Except for that of psychology and mental studies.”

BUMP

OOC: Sorry, James. Thank you for bumping.

IC:

A small grin graced Ana’s lips as well. A slight dash of cheekiness entered her normally even voice as she responded, “I received higher than average marks in all of my preliminary courses…” Her voice trailed off as her grin deepened briefly and then faded into curiosity, her head tilting to the side. “What did you not grasp regarding psychology?”

Darren, CoP

Duvosa gave a shrug of the shoulders, her seemingly nonchalant attitude returning. “I just never took an interest in trying to understand other people.” She paused. “Emotions and thought patterns are complicated.” She raised an eyebrow curiously at her companion. “Perhaps we can make a deal. I will train you in some combat techniques and you can help me understand…” Her voice trailed off and she looked lazily around the room. With a wave of her hand, she indicated the other crew members seated about. “These people.”
