Willow listened and considered. Her personnel fears seemed to center around her brother and the ex con they had in sickbay. On her ruined relationship and wether it was worth it…her professional ones....

“We seem to have had a bit of bad luck truth be told. I think as you say that my biggest fear is that we haven’t fully managed to come together as a crew before there’s been changes and things. But what you should know about me is that I am fiercely proud of my crew Commander.”

“Good. You should be,” she said sincerely. “And I could tell that at the ceremony too.”

“I might only know the surface details, but I do know you have additional stresses. More, personal ones. But I’m not your therapist. I’ll happy talk through it with you at any point, but I want to try to be careful not to confuse my roles here. I’ll admit that that is going to be my challenge going forward. I can’t stop thinking like a psychiatrist and seeing the clues people leave in abundance, but I know I have to see beyond that.” She smirked a little. “I’m a bit nervous about that, actually.” Willow seemed a reasonably open person, at least on the surface, but even Dira knew that the more open book CO needed to maintain some sense of mystique when it comes to their authority. Otherwise, it’s impossible to be the leader a crew needs. And this crew, especially, needed it’s leaders now more than ever.

Willow held her glass up. “Well, here’s to a working relationship where we build on each other’s strengths and cover each other’s weaknesses.” She said and drank from her glass.

“Cheers to that!” Dira said with a grin. She lifted her glass and took a large sip, savouring the bright herbal taste of the gin.

She leaned back in her seat and considered Willow for a few moments. “So what is it that you need of me, of a good first officer?”

Commander Myqian, XO

Willow considered her. “I need someone to call me out when I’m going in the wrong direction. I need someone who will offer advice even if Unasked for. But I need someone who will support me even if what I decide to do isn’t what they want or would have done in my stead.”

Myqian gave a subtle nod. A perfectly reasonable request.

She smiled. “I also need someone who I know I can trust to mind the store and not come back to find it all on fire.” She then looked thoughtful. “I also need someone who knows that we have some…strange crew members and won’t shrink away from that.”

Again she sipped. “Are you my woman Commander?”

Dira grinned and leaned forward. “Indeed I am. I think my experience and career path will actually be useful, under the circumstances. Trust me when I say there isn’t a ton I haven’t seen when it comes to people’s behaviour. Above all, most people want to know they have choice, that they get to carve their own path, even when the forces and variables around them want to suggest otherwise. I’m not afraid of what the Ogawa might thrown at me, at us,” she said resolutely. “And you can always be assured you will get my honest opinion, at appropriate times, of course.”

Commander Myqian, XO

Willow held her glass up. ”then here’s to a new partnership.” she said as if in toast. ”i think I’ll need the back up, from the looks of it We are going to be on the database for a little while as repairs are carried out. Keeping our people busy might prove a challenge.”
