Why must these things always start out small? Because if things started out big then people would notice them and they would be fixed before they became an issue. Unfortunately when things start out small they are often ignored until it is too late. So it was on Starbase 157.

It started out small. The smell of cake and tea here, the sound of a child’s laugh there but ultimately, eventually, everyone sensed it. Something was wrong in the Starbase. Something was really wrong, and soon there would be no doubt to how bad it was.

Strolling along the corridors NE Maddington stumbled slightly and tripped looking dazed. He closed his eyes tightly then opened them again before shaking out his head, eyes wide as he tried to regain focus, eventually he just slumped and leaned against the wall.

NE Papilio stumbled upon the situation and ran to his side, attempting to prop him up as she tapped her comm-badge. =/\= NE Papilio. I have medical emergency in section AA Deck 5. Ensign Maddington is showing signs of distress. =/\=

Luckily enough (or potentially unluckily enough, as foreboding as that post reads…), Brad was also strolling around the Starbase. He was technically on his way to the Infirmary, to visit with an old Academy classmate, when he heard the distress call come from around the next bend.

He peered around the wall to see a clearly sick NE and another NE very close to him. So, probably two patients, since if she wasn’t already infected, she would be soon if NE Maddington so much as breathed on her.

Fishing in his lab coat pocket for a medical tricorder, he aimed it down at the pair.

Papilio was in good condition, her heart rate slightly elevated but not so much that couldn’t be easily dismissed as being caused by the stress of finding another NE in the corridors.

Maddington, however, well his heart rate was racing despite the over all appearance of muscle relaxation. He was sweating and after a a few moments of scanning vomited all over Walker’s shoes. Poor kid was really in a bad shape.
