with a good Cai ordered a dark cola as suggested and grinned looking amused. ”Did the cardassian enjoy it at all do you think?” He asked.

Oscar paused for a moment, considering what happened while the Cardassian in question was downing the kanar. “Strangely enough, once he got the kanar, he finished the plate, so apparently, you just need the right beverage to accompany it in order to enjoy it.”

Willow meanwhile turned to Iyun. “I wonder if you and I should find another table.” She joked good-naturedly.

Willow and Cai

“Uhm,” was all Ria managed to say, her eyes meeting Willow’s for a brief moment before cast her gaze slightly down again. She was so nervous right now that she couldn’t even tell whether Willow was being serious or if she had made a joke. It was moments like this in particular, when she hated her insecurities and shyness. When she wished that she was different. Braver and funnier, less worried about pretty much everything.

The CPO realized that he was in the same boat as the Ensign, but approaching it from a completely different angle. It seemed like the scientist was timid and withdrawn in general, while Oscar was more concerned about losing his newest posting before he actually started it. For whatever reason, Oscar decided to join the banter.

“Well, that would be kind of awkward for the servers, but I suppose that would fall under the jurisdiction of ‘Captain’s prerogative’.”

Willow laughed. ”It seems a bit excessive, so in that case perhaps both you gentlemen would serve us ladies best by staying on that side of the table.” she said.

”regadrless it would make me a poor show of a captain. Especially since you are both new to our crew and I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting you in person yet.” she nibbled a breadstick. ”I try to make a point of meeting everyone at least once.”

Cai rolled his eyes. ”She means that. So don’t be surprised if she turns up randomly in your department just to say hello. We tried to tell her it was creepy for the captain to wander but she doesn’t listen.” he grinned and seemed pleased that Willow and frowned at him again.

Riani smiled shyly at Cai and Willow and said softly, “I think that is nice and not creepy.” And she meant it, though she was also glad to know before hand. In theory it reduced the chance that she’d panic and think she’d made a big enough mistake that she would get reprimanded by the Captain. Yet as she spoke she also felt blood rushing to her cheeks and so she quickly dropped her gaze again and looked at her hands instead, which were resting on her lap as she twisted a lock of her hair around her fingers.

Oscar nodded, and actually smirked a little bit. “Get over here, kid. Might as well let the Captain enjoy her meal. Honestly, though, you probably won’t run into me in Engineering unless something really goes wrong. I tend to get tossed on the late shifts for various reasons.”

He looked over at Iyun. “So, what’s your story, anyway, Ensign? Might as well let the CO get to know you. They either promote you because you impress them and they want to give you increased responsibilities, or they promote you so that they can send you somewhere else, so you can figure out early which one you’re trying.”

Ria’s eyes grew wide and she looked like a deer in headlights. What did he mean with “her story”? It sounded like he thought she was hiding something. Was he thinking that? Was she hiding something? Her mind was spinning and her heart was racing as she sat there, unable to say or do anything. And as quickly as her cheeks had turned red a moment ago, all the colour seemed to drain from her face just as quickly. After what felt like an eternity to her she manged to ask in a barely audible whisper, “What would you like to know?”
