She smiled and poured the woman a cup full before setting the kettle down and doctoring her own with heavy cream and a touch of demerara sugar. She sipped it with a heavy sigh of contentment and placed it back on the table before answering Dire’s question. “Isn’t that always the way with the jobs we have. Something always seems to take our attention away from food but I find that I just enjoy food too much to let myself be deterred for long. The tea is light but slightly spicy tea with an after flavor of the lavender. I love this place. Every time I am here, I come to sample new teas. Litea is the owner and I order from her from time to time when I cannot come by to pick up some. All of the food is excellent. They have a charcuterie plate with espra cheese and sadi as well as cheddar, grapes and crackers of several varieties. I don’t remember what else is on it except that it is good.”

Dira accepted the cup of tea with a small bow of her head. “Nice to have a place like this. Some days a mess hall just isn’t what you want,” she said knowingly. Sipping the tea, a wash of pleasure over the simple but exquisite drink enveloped her, and the new XO took a moment to simply appreciate it.

She thought on the menu for a long moment, “I suppose my favorite items on her menu today are Gorandian pot pie which is hearty and very comfort food, Cargil mussels which are light and on a pasta with a sauce that is slightly tart, Kleetanta, with forati sauce if you are vegetarian. The soups, salads and desserts are also always good.”

“Actually, the mussels sounds quite lovely. But like I said, I am rather hungry. I don’t normally miss meals, but it’s just a little hectic since I arrived. the pot pie might be just the thing I need today,” Dira said with a decide nod of her head.

“Are you sticking with the tea, or going to have something else as well?” Myqian said, wondering what Haven might choose of the variety foods apparently available.

Commander Myqian, XO

She grinned. “Oh no, I bring just as much of an appetite, maybe more. I work out 5 to 6 days a week. I burn a lot of calories. I’ll be doing the pasta and adding meat. A salad too. And who can forget dessert of course.”

Dira’s eyes lit up. “Oh! I am so with you there on dessert,” she said with a light laugh.

“I ate a quick lunch but I need something real after a day of coordinating shifts with a lot of new blood.”

“And how’s the team? You’re fairly new to the department head role, aren’t you?” Dira asked as she signalled to the staff that they were ready to order. It was still a work meeting, regardless of the setting and their relaxed demeanour, and there were certain boxes in her head she wanted to check off before the evening was over.

Commander Myqian, XO

Zoi ordered with the efficiency of a long time customer and speed her tea as Dira made her order. She was a patient person with most situations and showed ease with waiting. Her bright blue eyes studied the woman before her, taking in mannerisms and details. When their server left, Zoi answered the question. “Looks like I have some crewman to take under my wing. I am not sure if Rico had approved them before he left. It seems like they got here and suddenly forgot that rank aside, they still have to do things the Star Fleet way. However, this isnt my first rodeo as they say. While I am new to the department head position on the Ogawa, I have many years of experience as a Chief of Security on board Star Fleet vessels.”

She knew this would cause questions even if her file had been read and Zoi wondered what questions this woman would have for her concerning her lower rank and position despite her age and years of service. She found herself watching Dira and waiting.

Haven, CoS

Dira smiled. “Rank is a funny thing. It can mean everything in a situation or absolutely nothing. My impression so far in what little I’ve interacted or observed the crew is that it matters less than the leadership being delivered. People who join Starfleet tend to want to either be leaders or are happy to be lead. It’s a very large generality but I’ve found it to be mainly true much of the time. So long as you’re navigating that fine I doubt you’ll have much of an issue.” She could imagine that a security team assigned to a medical ship to be different than the ones she had known before. There was an element of ‘why do I have to be here?’ or feeling like it was a punishment because it was less of a glamorous role, but it was, when people really thought about it, even more important than say serving on a battlecruiser. It was perhaps less active and there was a need to temper boredom, but Dira expected that those that were sincere in their desire to serve would step up and do so without much complaint.

“Keep me apprised on how people are settling in. Though even as I say that I recognize that the crew is in an usual situation, given that we don’t really have a ship we can settle in to,” Myqian said with amusement.

Commander Myqian, XO

Zoi nodded. “True enough, but until we start being able to settle onto the ship, there is still a lot to do. While Starbase security handles things on the Starbase, it is still up to our security department to run point on security escorts throughout our ship, especially in sensitive areas. I have watches posted at all times there. We also have security at check points throughout the ship to make sure that staff working on the ship are approved and working in areas to which they are assigned. Once the ship is nearer completion, all workers will start requiring security escorts to decks that have been cleared and closed to all but essential and approved staff. I will let you know if I feel like something isn’t working in our dynamic. I have yet to test any of them but Rico seemed pretty pleased with the majority of the department so I dont think I will have too much of a problem there.”

“Are there any specific concerns or needs you have for Security?”

Haven, CoS
