OOC: Thanks Silke. :)

“What’s wrong?” Achilleas inquired. He thought he had seen a forlorn look in the other’s eyes. He hoped it wasn’t something he said.

Riani knew that most people found her ridiculously easy to read. That wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, but sometimes she really wished that wasn’t the case. Like right now for instant. Part of her wanted to say it was nothing, but she had a strong feeling her new boss would not believe her. Not to mention that telling the truth was generally the best way forward. But where was the line between enough and too much sharing? Her mind started spinning and she noticed her anxiety peaking a bit. Placing one hand on her stomach, she inhaled deeply and then exhaled slowly. Glancing up, she replied softly, “I’m a little homesick, to be honest. That will pass, though. It always does.” She smiled some as she glanced up at Achilleas, trying to look as confident as she could muster. “I promise it won’t impact my performance,” she added quickly.

Achilleas smiled back softly, “This is my first time away from Earth or even the Sol system, so I understand what you mean. First chance I got I went to the holodeck and and looked at the stars towards Earth from the Alpha Centauri colony. I’ve always wanted to get out to explore, but feel a little trepidation now that I’m away. I’m not worried about your performance at all. You seem like the sort of person who would try to work even while sick.” Achilleas chuckled at that thought. “Let me know if I can do anything to help. Maybe a holodeck trip with a colleague could kick the homesick blues.”

CSO Petrakos

A nervous chuckle escaped Ria’s lips at his remark about her probably trying to work even when she was sick. The truth was: he had hit the nail on the head with that assumption. For a short moment she looked down at her lap again, before her gaze flickered up once more and she said softly, “Thank you, Sir. I-” Her voice faltered and she dropped her gaze again. She wanted to say that she’d like that. But was it okay to spend time with her superior officer on the holodeck? Was she overthinking things again? Probably. Why couldn’t she simply accept his offer? Her head was spinning as she was going through everything pro and con she could think of. After what felt like an eternity, she took a deep breath and whispered, “I’d like that.”

Achilleas’ smile broadened, “Fantastic. If you have any holoprograms of home I’d love to be given a virtual tour of the place. I could reciprocate and give you a tour of my favorite spot in Greece.”

CSO Petrakos

Riani nodded. “I do, my mother made a program of our home for me before I came here,” she replied, a tender smile spreading over her face. “And for one of my classes at the Academy I made one of Deep Space Nine. I’d be happy to give you tour. Our house on Bajor is nothing special, but it is home.” She shrugged her shoulders slightly, yet the smile lingered on her face.

“Well that sounds fantastic.” Achilleas replied with a smile in return, “We’ll have to bring some customary foods from our cultures to share. I can treat you to some excellent, I hope, Greek cooking. Are you okay at cooking anything Bajoran?”

CSO Petrakos

At the mention of (Greek) food her face seemed to light up a bit more. Nodding, she said, “My parents taught all of us how to cook and I’d be happy to share some traditional dishes with you. Is there anything you like in particular or anything you don’t like or are allergic to?” Without giving him the chance to reply she continued in a rush, almost as if she was afraid she’d lose the nerve to ask if she didn’t do so right away (which was exactly the case), “Can you make dolmadakia, kataifi and galaktoboureko?”

“I’m unfamiliar with any Bajoran cuisine so I’ll leave that up to your discretion.” Achilleas smiled at Ria’s sudden enthusiasm. It was refreshing to suddenly see a non-hesitating side to her. Well, besides the enthusiasm to science and her job. “I can make those dishes but sure where to get some good quality grape leaves. I did bring some seasonings from home, and…” He lowered his voice at this point, “Several gallons of homemade olive oil. Almost used my weight limit bring that out here.”

CSO Petrakos

A soft, if still slightly nervous laugh escaped her lips. “That’s a lot of olive oil, Sir,” Riani said with a nod. Fiddling once again with the end of her braid, she pondered for a bit before asking, “Is there anything else we should talk about with regard to the Ogawa and my position here?” She didn’t think there was, but since this was the first time she was reporting for duty since her graduation a few weeks ago, she wasn’t really sure.
