Even though Ria wasn’t actually asleep, she felt a little tired and hoped that by closing her eyes for a moment, she’d feel more energised again. After all, she was the co-host of this tea party and should took care of their guests! So it wasn’t long till she sat up straight again and looked at everyone in the room in turn. “Are you enjoying yourself?” she asked and then jumped to her feet. “You all need more tea and food!” That said, she pushed the cucumber sandwiches towards Duvosa and Solal and then started to fill (or re-fill) every single tea cup on the table.

Solal pushed the sandwich away from himself, just a bit, hoping no one would notice. His tea cup was untouched. He had hoped they’d all stay asleep… but it appeared he was not so lucky. “I believe we’ve had enough to eat,” he said, politely, to Iyun.

Duvosa sipped on her tea nonchalantly. Then she looked around curiously. “If this is supposed to be a party where are all the other guests?” She mused aloud.

Achilleas pointed out the random science NEs loafing around and being merry, or in the case of NE Obvious, trying to be happy that his hair wasn’t shorn. “The party was a bit impromptu but there are enough people to still call it a party.” He commented before sitting back in his chair contently. He didn’t think he could eat another bite and perhaps the sugar consumption was ridiculously high. The thought came and went as he settled into sipping at his tea.

Petrakos, the March Hare

“Indeed,” Ria piped in. “There is no minimum requirement of people to call something a tea party. As long as there is tea, hats, a few people and everything food-wise you’d have for afternoon tea, it’s a tea party,” she continued with certainty. Looking through slightly narrowed eyes at Solal she added, “Though it is considered rude not to eat and drink at a tea party. Why do you have to spoil everything?” She pouted slightly, her arms crossed in front of her chest.

“Of course, of course!” Duvosa said, smiling slyly. She seemed content to drink her tea, and eat the sweets in front of her. However something did feel quite off to her. She felt as though she should be doing something else, but she couldn’t quite decide what that duty was.

-Duvosa, a card guard

“I… did not…” Solal paused, thinking of an answer. “I simply did not want to drink any tea.” He responded finally to Ria. “I intended to spoil nothing at all.”

“You can’t be considered a party-goer if you’re not participating in the party.” Achilleas chimed back in. His eyes narrowed as well as he continued. “Are you saying my tea isn’t good enough for you? I brewed it with utmost care from the supplies on hand in this lab. I guarantee its flavor is spectacular.”

Petrakos, the March Hare

“People participate in many ways,” Solal defended. “One cannot define ‘participation’ for another.” He said, though to avoid making the situation worse, he took a small sip of the now cold tea.

“There you go!” Duvosa said, smiling at Solal in encouragement. She looked back over at Achilleas and Ria. “He’s right though. There is no need to make him feel bad for not eating or drinking. It just means there is much more for the rest of us!” She grabbed a little pastry and stuffed it in her mouth.

Achilleas pondered that opinion with a hand on his chin. He nodded slowly for a moment before then shaking his head. “I would tend to agree except that these things are meant to be shared and enjoyed together. All the effort I’ve been into making this ‘tea’ would be lost if only I were the one to drink it. Besides, clearly we’re thinking things irrationally with a metric to measure enjoyment and not comfort.”

Petrakos, the March Hare

“Duvosa is drinking it,” said Solal, pointing out that Petrakos was not the only one to drink the tea, whether Solal did or not. “Enjoyment and comfort are both too abstract to be measured.” He commented.
