“You can’t be considered a party-goer if you’re not participating in the party.” Achilleas chimed back in. His eyes narrowed as well as he continued. “Are you saying my tea isn’t good enough for you? I brewed it with utmost care from the supplies on hand in this lab. I guarantee its flavor is spectacular.”

“People participate in many ways,” Solal defended. “One cannot define ‘participation’ for another.” He said, though to avoid making the situation worse, he took a small sip of the now cold tea.

“There you go!” Duvosa said, smiling at Solal in encouragement. She looked back over at Achilleas and Ria. “He’s right though. There is no need to make him feel bad for not eating or drinking. It just means there is much more for the rest of us!” She grabbed a little pastry and stuffed it in her mouth.

Achilleas pondered that opinion with a hand on his chin. He nodded slowly for a moment before then shaking his head. “I would tend to agree except that these things are meant to be shared and enjoyed together. All the effort I’ve been into making this ‘tea’ would be lost if only I were the one to drink it. Besides, clearly we’re thinking things irrationally with a metric to measure enjoyment and not comfort.”

“Duvosa is drinking it,” said Solal, pointing out that Petrakos was not the only one to drink the tea, whether Solal did or not. “Enjoyment and comfort are both too abstract to be measured.” He commented.

“I disagree,” Ria replied without hesitation, her gaze fixed on Solal. “They may not be measured with a set of scales or measuring tape, but they can be measured. If I were to ask each and everyone of you to tell me on a scale from 0 to 10 how comfortable you are and the same for how much you enjoy yourself, we can measure each person’s comfort and enjoyment and than calculate the average level of comfort and enjoyment. From that we can draw conclusions and try to make this tea party even more comfortable and enjoyable next time.” With that the normally so shy and demour scientist took another sip of her tea while her eyes remained on Solal; one eyebrow raised, her lips slightly pursed.

Duvosa raised her cup of tea in Ria’s direction. “Bravo, dear.” She said, toasting in the air and then taking another sip.

It was then that another pair of officers arrived; both dressed in EVA suits. One of them was another Bajoran officer. Her body language conveyed authority and self-assuredness. With one glace she took in the present officers and what appeared to be tea party. Nobody seemed injured, so that was at least something. And while Tija didn’t let her guard down, some of her concerns eased a little and she was relieved that they could focus on treating the fungal infection and making sure everyone stayed calm without having to treat any injuries as well. And while it was her impulse to walk straight into the room and take care of everyone, she decided to follow Commander Myqian’s order and let Dr. Grayson do the talking first. That, however, didn’t stop her from flipping her tricorder open and scan the room to see who was and wasn’t affected.

OOC: Fixing the split :)

As the two women entered the lab, Mariah steeled herself for what she might find. If they encountered people in the midst of hallucinations and delusions, there wouldn’t be much they could do themselves, but at the very least, they would know the infection had spread. To put it mildly, finding the group in the midst of what appeared to be a tea party was not at all what she expected. Still, she remained on edge, thinking of the Alice In wonderland connection with the delusions. “Hello, everyone. Is everything OK here?”

Achilleas, not as nearly invested in the debate as Ria, noticed the arrival of two new guests in full body body suits of some sort. The rational part of his mind correlated this bit of information with the fact that he and most of the present crew were acting completely out of sorts and drew the conclusion that something was in the air that was causing it. Made sense considering that whiff of whatever he smelled before the overriding desire to wear a hat and make tea. The irrational part of his mind was highly irritated that more people showed up who were clearly not interested in drinking his tea.

“Excuse me.” He exclaimed loudly as he struggled to stand on one leg. “This is a tea for which there is a dress code and your current garments do not match it. I kindly ask that you either conform to the proper attire or vacate this party.”

Petrakos, the March Hare

Duvosa looked up curiously at the new arrivals. “See, there you have it. More guests.” She said half heartedly.

Solal was glad to see the new arrivals, and a quiet ‘Finally’ escaped his lips. Standing from his seat, he said, “I assume you are here to stop this madness.”

Turning her head, Ria took in the two women who had just walked in on their ta party. A deep frown appeared on her face as she took their attire in. Whatever it was that they were wearing: It wouldn’t do at all! How could they eat and drink with those helmets on? And a helmet, in her book, did not count as a hat, either! And they must wear a hat at the very least! Maybe she could attach a hat to their helmets? Suddenly the frown on her face was replaced by a broad grin and a giddy chuckle bubbled up from her chest. Rising to her feet, he quickly walked over to the replicator and keyed in a request. With what appeared to be two old fashioned nurses caps and a glue gun in hand, she approached Tija and Grayson.

A very sweet smile playing across her face, Ria said to them, “As has been already pointed out: Nobody is allowed in here without the proper attire. At the very least you have to wear hats. If you don’t want to take off those ridiculous suits, I’ll just glue them to your heads.” Her voice was soft and gentle, but there was something about her that seemed to convey the exact opposite. It would be safe to assume that she wouldn’t take no for an answer.
