Double-checking the room number before they left, Dira (rebreather on) moved cautiously through the starbase with the increased sense of familiarity that having worked here for the last while had given her. They did their best to avoid coming across anyone so as to not risk contact. On the correct deck, they found the corresponding quarters, but before she tried the chime, she turned to Ever. “How do you want to tag-team this?” There were a few ways to go about this, but assessing the couple and dosing them if clearly affected was the likely outcome here.

Ever had followed through the corridors, feeling a bit isolated wearing an EVA suit and not speaking to Myqian. Though she was relieved in some ways that the XO could not hear her thoughts, it did limit their ability to work as a team with only verbal communication. Reminding herself she needed to solve the mystery waiting in her quarters sooner rather than later, she nodded to Myqian only half hearing what was spoken. “We are thinking the kid might be responsible for transmitting the hallucinations right? Can’t say children are an area I am over comfortable with or have much experience. But since I am still fully functioning telepathically, I should probably speak to her Betazoid to Betazoid. She will trust me more. I hope. Unless you have a better plan?”

Dira shook her head. “It could be either of the parents who read the story to her, if that is the case, but if you want to talk to the daughter, I’ll deal with the parents,” the XO said as she reached out and pressed the chime. “Either way, we can spray the three of them quickly and by what they said it should take quick effect.” In some ways it helped that Dira was focused on the immediate task and the starbase as a whole, because the suppressant wasn’t going to last forever. It wasn’t her first go-round having to have her abilities reduced or suppressed, and in her experience, the effect usually lasted a couple hours before it needed to be repeated. Anything stronger would have nocked her out entirely.

The door hissed open and there was the husband clearly experiencing flu like symptoms. “What is with the suits?” he asked in a concerned tone, “I told those other doctors that she had a fever and they just bounded off somewhere.” He rolled his eyes and started shuffling deeper into the quarters area, “She is in here, with her mother. The fever hasn’t broken yet.”

Clearly he was expecting someone, but perhaps not the XO and the CoP.

Luckily for Goslom Neazo, both Dira and Ever were psychiatrists, which meant they also held medical degrees. They might not be practising physicians, but they were both more than capable of handling the investigation of some symptoms. And Goslom and Mirro didn’t need to know the difference for the officers to do what they needed to. Dira gave a nod to the COP to proceed with the daughter. “Doctor Zeanar will go look in on your daughter and see how she is feeling. As for the suits, I’m afraid there is something of an illness going about and it’s for our protection.” She gestured over to a chair. “You don’t look so great yourself. Might I take a look at you and your wife while my colleague cares for you daughter?”

Commander Myqian, XO

“Yes, of course,” he said as he slumped in the seat, a blanket wrapped around his shoulders as his weight shifted back and forth. He looked over the pair, “I trust it isn’t something that we are responsible for.” He glanced over his shoulder towards the child’s bedroom. “She is getting worse, isn’t she?”

Why Ever had asked to look after the little girl must have been a lapse in judgement. She really did not like children and found them to be most unreasonable. Smiling through the clear screen of the helmet, she nodded at the father before moving towards the little girl and her mother. Her dark eyes focused on the child as she sent her thoughts as calmly as possible to both mother and child. In a crisis, it was easier on most people to be as close to what was comfortable and natural. For Betazoids, that meant non verbal communication. By this point, if the child was patient zero, or one of the parents, their minds may have been far too gone to make much sense. But then again, being Betazoid might have been a better buffer than not. Ever bent down on one knee in front of the child and held out a hypo. Hello lovely. I am Dr. Zeanar and I have some medicine for you. I heard you are not feeling well. This will make you all better. Can I give it to you please?

Zeanar, CoP

=^= Taylor to Myqian. Did you hear the joke about the delirious Captain, Commander?=^=

Dira smiled in relief at the captain sounding very much herself. =/\=I believe the punchline involves a tiara?=/\= she teased. =/\=Stand by for an update.=/\= rRight now she wanted to focus on the father and getting this situation under control.

The tricorder scans of the family showed that the parents had some sort of flu, but were otherwise fine. BP, pulse, metobolic panel, all were fine for someone who something only a little more severe than the common cold. The girl, on the other hand, was quite worse. Her fever was far too high for what she should have, and it was clear she was having some sort of fever dream.

Her mother clutched the girl’s hand, a copy of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland sitting on the bedside table spine up as if it had just been sat down. “I have been reading to her. She seems to like it, gives the dreams something to focus on.” She squeezed the child’s hand again, “She is in a state of turmoil. Can you sense it?”
