(snip)

An hour was plenty of time for Zoi to prepare not only herself but her quarters. She had showered and changed into a slinky silken blue nightgown with no back and a halter neck of pearls. At either end of the string of pearls was a glittering clip holding on to each side of the gown. A sheer matching robe lay draped over her shoulders, held closed by a small string of pearls across her waist from one lapel to the other. Her hair was a mass of blonde waves, full of volume and trailing down her back. Tiny pearls decorated her strands of waves here and there. Makeup had been carefully applied to enhance her features. Her feet were bare as she tread across the carpet, lighting the mass of candles littered over the surfaces of the room. They weren’t really on fire though. Such would be a safety hazard, but they looked very convincing. Flower petals of several types littered the floor. The air smelled fragrant but lightly so.

When she heard the chime, she rushed around like a chicken with her head cut off for a full 15 seconds before she shook herself and looked around for a way to properly display herself. She finally settled on the window seat area, leaning against the edge of the window in as sultry a manner as she could manage. She cleared her throat, her heart leaping in anticipation of Dira’s response and said “Come in.” trying for a deep and sultry voice to go with her look.

Stepping in, the anticipation was palpable and Dira immediately regretted how this was all unfolding. Not the setting and certainly not Zoi in all her gorgeousness, but the crisis was not entirely over and as first officer she couldn’t just switch off. Not yet. And yet… and yet.

“I am soooo underdressed. Or is it overdressed?” she said, gazing longingly at the woman who had so easily and quickly captured her attention. Though it was more than that. Mindful fo the still risk of exposure, Dira cautiously took off the rebreather, her hand still in her pocket holding the hypo.

Zoi couldn’t help herself as she saw Dira’s reaction. She smiled. She could feel every second of Dira’s eyes on her. IT was a glorious feeling of triumph and anticipation But then she frowned, looking at the rebreather and Dira’s cautious movements. Her heart sake as she realized what was likely to happen. Even under the influence, she was a smart woman and she knew that Dira was here to stop her fun.

Dira stepped closer, but slowly. “Do you trust me Zoi? Like fully trust me?”

She could fight, but doing so would hurt Dira and no matter how fun fighting often was, she could not bring herself to hurt this woman in front of her. The pull of the spores to go find fun was hard to resist. Tears sprang to her bright baby blue eyes and she replied in a petulant tone. “You are here to stop my fun, aren’t you.”

“Maybe. Depends on how you define fun, I think,” Dira said gently, her heart aching as Zoi began to cry.

Zoi felt the tug again, harder this time and her lip trembled. For the first time, she realizing something was going on and she wasn’t herself. It was hard to think… when had that happened. Certainly she trusted Dira as an Executive Officer, as her boss, but did she trust Dira as a person? She couldn’t get past the Cheshire Cat to even figure it out. Instead of answering the question, she whispered. “Dira something is wrong. Can you fix it?”

With a slow nod, Dira closed the distance between them and sat on the edge of the window with Zoi. Time was of the essence. While they knew touch was key, the question of mere proximity was still up in the air. So to speak. “I can. Don’t worry my dear, I have you, okay?”

Dira reached up and brushed the trail of tears off her cheek before resting her hand on the side of Zoi’s face. Bringing her right hand up, she leaned in towards Zoi, resting her forehead against her own one, releasing the contents of the hypo into the air between them. “Take a deep breath,” she said, doing the same herself. She was willing to risk exposure so that Zoi could get her own treatment. There was not as much risk for Dira as there had been before, but it was hardly negligible. She also knew from reports that the remedy should take effect very quickly.
