She could fight, but doing so would hurt Dira and no matter how fun fighting often was, she could not bring herself to hurt this woman in front of her. The pull of the spores to go find fun was hard to resist. Tears sprang to her bright baby blue eyes and she replied in a petulant tone. “You are here to stop my fun, aren’t you.”

“Maybe. Depends on how you define fun, I think,” Dira said gently, her heart aching as Zoi began to cry.

Zoi felt the tug again, harder this time and her lip trembled. For the first time, she realizing something was going on and she wasn’t herself. It was hard to think… when had that happened. Certainly she trusted Dira as an Executive Officer, as her boss, but did she trust Dira as a person? She couldn’t get past the Cheshire Cat to even figure it out. Instead of answering the question, she whispered. “Dira something is wrong. Can you fix it?”

With a slow nod, Dira closed the distance between them and sat on the edge of the window with Zoi. Time was of the essence. While they knew touch was key, the question of mere proximity was still up in the air. So to speak. “I can. Don’t worry my dear, I have you, okay?”

Dira reached up and brushed the trail of tears off her cheek before resting her hand on the side of Zoi’s face. Bringing her right hand up, she leaned in towards Zoi, resting her forehead against her own one, releasing the contents of the hypo into the air between them. “Take a deep breath,” she said, doing the same herself. She was willing to risk exposure so that Zoi could get her own treatment. There was not as much risk for Dira as there had been before, but it was hardly negligible. She also knew from reports that the remedy should take effect very quickly.

Zoi leaned into Dira’s hand as she felt the warmed of it brush her cheek. She accepted this closeness as she rested her forehead against Dira’s. Zoi hadn’t really had this kind of intimacy in a long time and it felt so natural and wonderful to be with Dira here despite the circumstances. She took in the deep breath as Dira did. She wasn’t sure exactly what was going on, but she trusted Dira would help.

It didn’t take long for the antidote to take effect. Her fuzzy mind and near constant pull to find some mischief was gone with a mental pop. Clarity came washing in as she realized what had happened. She sucked in a breath and straightened. It was like waking from a disassociating dream. “Oh my.” She looked around the room and then at her clothing. Her face flushed bright hot pink.

Dira nodded slowly. “It’s okay. You’re okay,” Myqian said gently. And while her therapist training easily took over there was a great deal of personal feeling mixed in.

Zoi had been on the verge of starting to panic when Dira’s calm and gentle voice brought her back. She took another deep breath and looked at the woman in front of her.

Though there was space between them again, a deep part of her wanted to remove it again. And more. But not yet. Taking Zoi’s hand in hers, she kissed the lovely fingers she held. “I’m not going to tell you to not be embarrassed, because I can understand it to be very disconcerting. But, right now, as you are, you Zoi Haven are are one of the most exquisite creatures I’ve ever laid my eyes on. And if I didn’t have to be Commander Myqian for a little bit longer, I’m not so proud to admit that I was sorely tempted to join in your… fun. But I’m a firm believer in patience and good things coming to those that practice it. Can you wait a little longer?”

Commander Myqian, XO

Her earnest compliment warmed Zoi more than the situation did. She couldn’t help but smile and a little more of her unease fell away. She felt the butterflies in her stomach and nodded a bit sheepishly. She knew she wanted to take Dira into the bedroom, so close to them in this moment. She wanted to fill the promise that her altered self had given. She lifted her right hand to tuck an errant strand of hair and.... pearls? Oh my indeed.

Dira was fully aware of the emotional tug of war Zoi was going through and she honestly felt it too.

Finally she nodded. “I think I can wait a bit. I suppose I should change and assist in this situation as well.”

Haven, CoS

“Only if you feel up for it,” Dira said firmly, still holding Zoi’s hand. “While we could definitely use people helping as others get treated, if you felt you needed more time, you are more than welcome to take it. Either way, I’m going to wait until you’re okay before I leave, alright?” While there might be things that required her attention right now, Dira was not the kind of person to just run out on a person in need. And there was another part of her too that for once wanted to not be the one walking away from this woman. Leaving together, or leaving because it was the next natural step would be a nice change, rather than her having to run away from a situation she previously wasn’t sure how to deal with. Now she was sure what she, what they both wanted. It was only a matter of timing.
