Stepping through the airlock that connected the Athena to the Starbase, Janna felt an almost immediate wash of relief. She almost stopped mid-step but others (equally eager to disembark for R&R or whatever else might be on the agenda) forced her to keep moving. Stepping out onto the open merchant space, Kingston blended in to the surroundings of civilians and Starfleet crew. Her, the latter, in her health sciences blue uniform, could have been anyone from anywhere. Brief anonymity was nice, even if it was a bit ridiculous. After all, she lived on a massive ship with a massive crew and the Starbase wasn’t any different. But there was a different feeling on a starbase that was hard to pinpoint other than she recognized the sensation after years working on Outpost 45.

I still wouldn’t mind a smaller place, she thought as she ran a hand over her chin length blond curls, her pale green eyes scanning the busy surroundings. The psychologist in her understood that she, like many of her shipmates, were struggling in the aftermath of their last mission. Had everyone here heard about it? Certainly some of it would be classified. Or would it? She hadn’t heard word from Captain Koraia about it so far, but so many of their missions had required discretion that she was certain the Athena’s crew just expected it.

Then again, it wasn’t everyday that you saved not only your own universe, but another one as well. And lived to tell the tale.

Worn out, stressed and likely traumatized, many of her fellow shipmates were finding ways to cope. Just like she was right now. Though she herself couldn’t quite say what that coping was supposed to look at right now. Just because she was a therapist, didn’t mean she had her own life in perfect order. And so, not sure where she was going, Janna Kingston began to wander.

OOC: If you’d like to know more about Janna’s, here’s a link to her bio: https://www.star-fleet.com/core/character/125/. There’s a picture there too. :)

Walking in the opposite direction and thus towards Janna, was a petite Bajoran woman. Just like Janna she was dressed in the uniform of a medical officer, despite the fact that she was on medical leave. Her copper red hair was tied back into a neat ponytail, leaving not only her earring, but also the pale white scar running along her hairline from her temple to her right ear clearly visible. With her nose buried in her PaDD, she didn’t really pay attention to where she was going and if she hadn’t looked up at the right moment, may have walked into Janna.

Startled by the almost collision, Janna couldn’t help but give an embarrassed smirk. “Well that was close. Good thing we weren’t carrying anything sharp. Been there, done that, never fun,” she joked.

Her cheeks turning slightly pink, Tija replied, “My apologies. I should read and walk at the same time. Are you alright?” There was a seriousness about her as if she never took anything lightly, mixed with genuine concern. Lowering her PaDD, she looked closely at the other woman. She hadn’t seen her before so she assumed that she was neither a member of the Ogawa nor of the Starbase. Then again, the Starbase alone had a large number of personell stationed here permanently, so she could be mistaken of course.

“I’m fine,” she replied with a smile. “To be honest, I wasn’t paying quite enough attention either. Haven’t spent much time on the starbase and I was trying to remember where things were and figure out what was new.” She pressed her fingertips to her chest. “I’m Janna Kingston. I’m from the Athena. We just docked a little while ago.”

Tija returned then smile and said, “It is nice to meet you. My name is Tija Aizala. I’m …” Her voice falter and a small frown appeared on her face as she realised that she wasn’t sure how she could and wanted to finish that sentence. To say that she was stationed on the Ogawa would be incorrect, yet at the same time she didn’t like telling people that she was currently on medical leave. After a short pause she continued, “I recently arrived here after my posting on the USS Challenger ended. I’ll serve on the Ogawa next.” None of that was a lie, even though she had no idea how long it would be till she would be cleared for duty and was actually going to serve on the new ship, instead of being a patient there.

“Ahh yes, I heard the ship was badly damaged and you’re getting a brand new one. That can be an exciting time to join a crew,” Janna said with a friendly smile, fighting her own memories of when she joined the Athena. It hadn’t been bad, just as a result of tragedy and it was always hard to be someone stepping in to someone else’s familiar shoes.

Tija nodded thoughtfully. For a few moments her own thoughts drifted towards what had happened on the Challenger and why she was here now. Somewhere where she didn’t really wanted to be. At least not like this. As her gaze met Janna’s again, she admitted, “I’m not going to join the crew. Not really anyway. I am … currently on medical leave. With the Ogawa being a hospital ship the decision was made for me that I had to come here. And once I’ll be cleared for duty again, I will become part of the crew. Or so I have been told.” Not being the best at social interactions, Tija didn’t know how to continue and thus did the only thing she could think of and that was to sort of smile at Janna.

Janna nodded and gave her most reassuring smile. “I’ve no doubt that will be the case.” She looked around for a moment before gazing back at Tija. “So, any good places around here? My last visit was exceptionally brief.” If she were honest with herself, Janna was nervous about being here again, as if Kivon might appear and abduct her once more. But Janna knew that to be an unfounded fear and that the only way forward was to get more comfortable with the starbase itself.

A small frown appeared on her freckled face as she pondered Janna’s question. The truth was: She hadn’t been to any of the establishment on the Starbase herself. But she had heard other officers talk about some of them. “I haven’t been there myself, but I’ve heard some good things about the Boiler Room Café, if you’re looking for a quieter atmosphere. Otherwise there is this bar …” Her frown deepened as she tried to remember the name. “The Likable … Wasp or Hornet or something. From the sound of it, it’s the opposite of the Café.”
