With her shift coming to an end, Ria was beginning to pack up for the day. Most days she was one of those scientists you had to drag out of the lab, unless she had plans with Achilleas or an appointment with the counsellor. But since the fungus incident the other day she felt awkward and even more self-conscious than usual whenever she was in the lab and even more so when she had to talk to anyone who had seen her behave in such an embarrassing way. So for the time being she tended to leave the moment her shift was over. And thankfully for most of her own research she didn’t necessarily need the science lab and thus could continue working in the safety and comfort of her quarters.

“Excuse me Ensin Lyun, could I ask for your assistance?” The deep bur and accented voice spoke from behind her.

The first thing she would see as she turned was the white robe and black tunic over the massive chest, looking up the white specialists under-tunic and rank pips the imperial crest on the other side of the collar out of place. Then the grayed and scared visage of a Klingon with startlingly kind amber eyes.

Ria gave a small jump. Lost in her own thoughts she hadn’t even heard anyone approach her. As she turned towards the person behind her, her eyes grew wide and she looked at him like a deer caught in headlights. “Of course,” she squeaked and after taking a deep breath continued with a tremble in her voice, “How … how can I h-help you?”

~Ensign Iyun, Scientist

A smile quirked his face. “Easy Ensin, I mean you no harm.” Giving the obviously frightened woman a moment to adjust to his presence. “I have been reading the ship’s logs and I need help understanding this reference to ‘psycho-active mycotoxin’ and ‘zygo-spore’. I admit science isn’t my strong suit.” Tho mostly true, he understood the references well enough after a quick computer search, but it provided a plausible reason to have sought out the reclusive scientist.

Feeling utterly foolish about her reaction, Ria took a deep breath and then nodded. “What exactly would you like to know?” she asked and reached for a PaDD with the research that had conducted on the spores since the infamous ‘Alice in Wonderland’ incident. “Do you have any specific questions or would you like a general overview?” She was still rattled from the sudden appearance of the Klingon in the lab, that it didn’t even occur to her that she might not be allowed to talk to a civilian about what had happened, or to wonder why he had access to the ship’s files and knew her name, or to ask for his name.

~Ensign Iyun, Scientist

No, no a general overview is more than sufficient I think. I simply need to know what my charges have been dealing with, so I can better serve their needs.” The open and friendly tone cupeled with his confident aura made questions of clearance mute. The opratunity for a scientist to share there knowledge was a powerful drug in its own right.

Ria nodded thoughtfully and pondered for a moment where best to begin. Eventually she said, “So as you have read in the files part of the crew has been under the influence of a ‘psycho-active mycotoxin’ and ‘zygo-spores’. I even heard some of the crew refer to them as … ‘magic mushroom’ or something. Anyways, so what happened on a scientific level is this:” And off she went talking in great detail and many scientific terms about what had happened and why and how it was eventually resolved, without going into any details of the mass hallucination or her own experience as the Mad Hatter. All of that was something she’d much rather forget. It would probably become clear to Korack sooner or later that she might not stop talking unless he actually interrupted her, considering that she started referencing similar effects of other plants and the like. As she talked she seemed to become more relaxed and less frightened of everything. Even a soft smile crept onto her features.

As the question was only a pretense to meet the young officer, he let her talk. He had looked up the pertinent articles he needed to have a working understanding of how the micro toxins in the spores had doused the personnel on the station to hallucinate. But his job was to gain the crews trust and see to their spiritual health. So thus he listens in silence as she spoke, remembering at lest the last fifteen minutes of her rambling.
