Solal, still wearing his own hat, shrugged to Tija. “I had not been aware of the… situation when I was dragged into this mess.” He told her. “But I have been… doing my best to keep things under control here.” He said. With a quick glance about, he could safely say he had not done a great job on that front.

~ Solal, Doctor

With her lips pressed into a thin line Tija listened to everyone in the room, while also paying close attention to their movements and body language. None of them did or said anything threatening, yet she started to feel more and more uncomfortable and if she was being honest with herself: a little anxious. After all, one wrong move and the so far calm situation could escalate. Shifting her gaze briefly towards Solal again, she gave him a nod and said curtly, “Thank you Doctor.”

At that moment, Ria used the other woman’s momentary distraction to close the remaining distance while putting hot glue on one of the nurse’s caps in her hand. with a sweet smile she tried to place the hat on Aizala’s head. Or helmet, really. But just as she lifted her arms Tija placed the hypospray swiftly on her neck and injected her with the antifungal, hoping that it would work and that the young scientist, or any of the other people in the room, wouldn’t react violently.

~Ensign Iyun, The Mad Hatter & Lt. Tija, Doctor (med. leave)

Duvosa looked up, noticing Tija using a hypospray on Ria. “What was that?” She asked curiously, still not making a move to get up from where she was seated, and still holding her teacup in one hand. “What did you just inject her with?”

-Duvosa, a card guard

Achilleas’ visage hardened as whoever was in the EVA suit injected something into Ria. His rational mind knew that whoever that was likely didn’t mean her any harm but he was running off of instinct and emotion and right now his emotions were screaming at him to protect her. So while ignoring the immense pain from his busted leg, he pushed away from the table behind him and charged towards the space suited hypo wielder.

Petrakos, the March Hare

The affects of the hypo spray were fairly quick, or at least they worked as intended. After a moment of lightheaded disorientation Iyun would start to come to her senses and realize she was just engaged in one of the most awkward living dreams in the history of the starbase.

GM Wombat

Dropping everything she was holding, Ria reached instead for Aizala’s arm to steady herself as everything seemed to spin a little. For a brief moment her brown eyes met the other woman’s green ones before she quickly dropped her gaze and stared at her feet while also letting go of her arm. “I’m sorry,” she said in a soft voice as blood rushed to her face. She felt beyond mortified, thinking of everything she had said and done in the last … however long it had been. Why had she been behaving that way?

While she was often rather curt and on the point, Tija could be kind and gentle and had better bedside manners than most people thought. “You should sit down. Dr. Grayson will explain everything,” she replied just as softly, placing her hand gently on the younger woman’s shoulder for a moment. She knew that the young woman would be in good hands and from the look of it, she had her work cut out with everyone else.

Stepping in front of Grayson and Iyun, Tija blocked Petrakos path towards them. She didn’t need her tricorder to know that he was injured and thus didn’t really consider him a threat. But adrenaline could make people do the seemingly most impossible things. So she wasn’t going to take any chances and certainly didn’t let her guard down. Her voice level, yet clearly audible throughout the room and ringing with authority, she said simply, “We are here to help you. You, and a number of other people on the station have been infected by an airborne fungus that makes you hallucinate. We have developed an antifungal. That is what I injected her with. We will treat all of you and then I’ll also treat any injuries you may have.” At those words her gaze fell on Petrakos and she hoped that he would listen to her.

Confusion and concern written all over her face, Ria tried to peer around Aizala’s back. She felt herself getting close to an anxiety attack and yet found herself unable to do any of the grounding or breathing techniques that usually helped her. First she needed to know that Achilleas was alright. Her breathing was fast and shallow and she was trembling slightly as she tried to catch his eyes.

~Ensign Iyun, Scientist & Lt. Tija, Doctor (med. leave)

Achilleas stumbled to a stop as he could see that Ria was okay if a bit shaken. Aizala’s words echoed in his mind as the rational side took it in and the influenced side fought to keep the momentum of emotions going. The sheer need to protect faded away as he realized Ria was fine and with that came an intense exhaustion and pain. With a muted gasp of breath, his weight shifted off of his bad leg but still he slumped to the ground in a heap.

Petrakos, the March Hare

With her gaze fixed on Petrakos, taking in everything about him, Tija instantly hurried to his side and knelt down next to him almost at the same instant as he hit the ground. She swiftly pressed the hypospray against his neck to administer the antifungal while asking, “I’m Doctor Tija. Can you tell me your name and do you remember what happened to your leg?” she asked, her voice calm and soothing. She made eye contact for a brief moment to reassure him. Her tricorder still in her other hand, she removed the little node and started to scan him slowly and methodically; her gaze now fixed on the tricorder’s screen.

~Lt. Tija, Doctor (med. leave)

Achilleas trembled as his unsettled state and emotions… well, settled down. It was as if a layer of vibrant yet chaotic and frantic compulsions were stripped away and in its place was a deep exhaustion, pain, concern, confusion, and a whole heaping amount of embarrassment. He cleared his throat before responding to the good Doctor’s questions, at least she seemed like she would be a good doctor. “My name is Achilleas Petrakos. My leg was, uh, injured in an awkward fall while under the influence of this fungus. I could feel myself in pain during this whole episode but it was a sort of detached feeling.”

The tricorder readings would show that there was significant soft tissue damage around the knee as well as a dislocation. It would probably be surprising that he had walked on it at all.

Ria gasped as she saw Achilleas fall to the ground. Panic washed over her and she struggled to get enough air into her lungs. Even though she was hyperventilating a little and starting to feel a bit dizzy, she somehow managed to rush towards him. Falling to her knees next to him, she placed a trembling hand on his shoulder. Her voice was thick with concern as she asked, “Achilleas, what happened? Are you okay?”

~Ensign Iyun, Scientist

Achilleas shifted his attention over to Ria as he stretched a hand out to lightly caress her cheek. “I’m okay my love.” He started to answer, not caring for the others present in this moment. “My leg just hurts a bit and my rushing over like a fool didn’t help. I’m surprised that it held out as well as it did but I think I’m done running until I get it checked out.” He smiled a little to try and reassure her.

CSO Petrakos

After putting the hypospray with the antifungal back in her medkit, Tija prepared two other hyposprays; one with an analgesic and the other with a local anesthetic. “Your injury isn’t serious Lieutenant. And yet under normal circumstance I would ask the transporter chief to beam you into sickbay as it’s a more comfortable place to be treated. But with hallucinations and everything, I think it’s best for me to treat you here. I’ll give you an analgesic first and then a mild local anesthetic.” As she said that, she gently pressed the hypospray with the analgesic against the side of his neck. While she gave the medication a moment to take effect, she continued, “You have dislocated your knee and injured the soft tissue in the surrounding area. It won’t take me long to treat and heal your injuries, but I highly recommend that you avoid strenuous activities over the next few days and to stay off your feet as much as possible so that you can fully recover.” That said, she pressed the other hypospray close to his knee. After a few more moments and after making sure that Petrakos wasn’t feeling any pain, she set his knee and then healed the injured tissue. Once that was done, she asked, “How are you feeling now?”

Despite the hypo helping numb a good deal of the pain, Achilleas still took in a sharp breath in discomfort. The pain wasn’t as bad as when he had to sail home with a broken arm, or the guilt given by his mom and grandmother, but painful things still sucked. He gave a smile to Tija, “Much better, thank you. That was a very weird sensation, not sure how to describe it really.”

Fighting against tears, Ria watched Aizala silently. Her hand was still resting on Achilleas’s shoulder and her eyes kept moving to his face in regular intervals. Of course she knew that an injury like that wasn’t really anything to be concerned about. At least not with modern medicine at hand and good doctors close by. And yet she couldn’t help feeling anxious and worried, on top of feeling highly embarrassed about everything that had happened that day.

~Ensign Iyun, Scientist

Achilleas moved his focus to Ria, his smile growing wider and warmer. She was still wearing the hat he’d replicated for her, and while that whole experience kind of felt like a dream now, he felt that the hat framed her face beautifully. He gently moved his thumb along her cheek before he said softly, “Hey. I know this whole thing got kind of crazy, but I still had a lot of fun.”

CSO Petrakos

Ria nodded meekly and silently. Maybe one day she’d be able to laugh about it, but right now she just tried not to think about what happened as it made her feel highly embarrassed. “I hope you’ll feel better soon,” she whispered softly, her voice trembling ever so slightly.

~Ensign Iyun, Scientist

Duvosa looked around at the events unfolding. She still held onto that darn teacup, and she was beginning to feel quite out of place. “Will someone please tell me what is going on?” She asked, not quite addressing anyone in particular, but almost as if she was talking to the teacup.

O0C Lori: sorry it’s been a while since I posted. I could’ve sworn I had written a reply to this and posted it, but I didn’t see it in the thread. I’ll catch up now :-)

Grayson breathed an inward sigh of relief as people were slowly brought back to reality, thanks to her partner’s quick thinking. She respected Tija’s initiative with beginning the injections, but she knew it could’ve easily gone sideways. After all, they hadn’t been threatened in any way and the worst that could’ve happened in the moment was they would be forced to wear funny looking hats on top of their helmets. Mariah was hoping she could have convinced them to accept the injection as part of their shared delusion. In her experience, when dealing with delusional and potentially agitated and unpredictable people, it was better to accept their perception of reality and find a way to incorporate treatment within it rather than challenge the accuracy of those perceptions in the moment. Still, she could appreciate the doctor’s courage and was just grateful no one had been hurt further. For now, while Tija attended to Petrakos, she explained to Duvosa and anyone else who still might be confused about what was happening despite hearing it before, “We believe all of you were infected with a particular fungus and the infection resulted in you and others experiencing a shared delusion concerning Alice in Wonderland. We’re still trying to figure out how the infection is transmitted and how this particular delusion came about, but you can thank my partner here for her quick thinking. She’s giving you an antifungal injection that we hope will clear everyone’s heads.”

~Dr. Mariah Grayson, Psychiatrist

“Um.... okay,” Duvosa said, looking utterly lost and confused.

Getting back up to her feet, Tija walked past Grayson as she made her way over to Duvosa. As she passed the psychiatrist, she said softly, “I think the Bajoran science officer might need some support.” Without waiting for a reply, she continued towards Duvosa.

Smiling gently at the security officer, she asked, “How are you feeling? I would like to give you the antifungal as well, okay?”

~Lt. Tija, Doctor (med. leave)

“I guess so,” Duvosa said, shrugging her shoulders. She was feeling very sluggish and lethargic.

-Duvosa, Sec

Still smiling at Duvosa, Tija made sure the hypospray still had the correct dosage and then pressed it against the side of the other woman’s neck. “How are you feeling now?” she asked as she started to scan her with her medical tricorder to make sure the officer was otherwise fine and unijured.

~Lt. Tija, Doctor (med. leave)

Offering a slight nod in acknowledgment of Tija’s words, Grayson approached Ria, being careful not to get too close to quickly. Everyone they come upon seemed understandably perplexed about what had happened, but the scientist seemed particularly quiet and withdrawn. It occurred to Grayson at that point that perhaps more had occurred beyond a simple but delusion fueled tea party. At least one person has been physically injured, were there others that were just not as obvious? Softly, she offered, fully cognizant of the tremble in the other woman’s boys, she said, “would you like to talk privately for a moment?” The psychiatrist gestured towards a corner of the room. Her first instinct was to suggest they leave, but under the circumstances, and until they knew more, she didn’t feel comfortable leaving Tija to handle everything else by herself.

~Dr. MariahGrayson, Psychiatrist

“I-” Ria started, her gaze wandering form Achilleas to Mariah and then back again. “I don’t know. I…” Her voice trailed off. She had an incling that it might be good to talk to her, but she also didn’t want to leave Achilleas alone. So she just sat there. Her hand still on his shoulder, biting on her lower lip and concern and anxiety written clearly all over her face.

~Ensign Iyun, Scientist

OOC: I am not ignoring you, by the way! I am just waiting to see what Oscar does with the spore samples to see if they come here for research.

OOC: Speaking of which…

=/\= Cascarrabias to Starbase Science Lab - I have the fungal mass contained. Do you want me to send it your way so you can take a look, or should I just go back to my quarters and build it a new home? =/\=

Grayson didn’t have to be a behavioral specialist to see Ria was uncertain and anxious. Recalling Ever’s description of the scientist’s needs, Grayson wondered if this was a typical reaction for her, or just amplified because of exposure to the fungus. Either way, she could say it would be best to help her relax before inquiring any further about her well-being. “How about we take some deep breaths? It sounds like what you’ve been through has been pretty disorienting.” Mariah was about to say more when they were interrupted. At last, they were going to be able to examine more closely the cause of so much disorientation. It was not the psychiatrist’s place to speak for the science staff, but she stood ready to provide assistance in case Ria continued to be overcome by indecision.

~Dr. Mariah Grayson, Psychiatrist

Achilleas was naturally concerned about Ria and the anxiety she was going through. He’d seen this in her before but couldn’t help her like he had before due to them being in a room full of people. It was almost as if the Prophets gave him a clue when the call came in from engineering. He tapped his badge to respond. =/\=Petrakos here. We’re recovering from the effects of that particularly nasty bugger, so please by all means bring it by. My staff and I would love a chance to figure out what the heck caused all of this.=/\=

Achilleas focused his attention back on Ria and said softly but firmly, “I need your help with this. I need you in the now and focused on figuring this out. We’ll have time to process everything afterwards but I need your brilliant mind right now. Afterwards I want you to sit down with the good doctor.” He nodded towards Grayson. “Can you do this for me?”

CSO Petrakos

Ria nodded in reply to both of them, but before actually saying anything, she closed her eyes and moved both her hands. Placing one on her stomach and one in the middle of her chest, she started to inhale deeply and slowly while going through a grounding exercise in her mind; only skipping the 5 things she could see part. When she opened her eyes again, she seemed a little calmer and able to focus on the present again. Looking at Achilleas, then at Mariah and then back at Achilleas, she replied softly, yet steadier than before, “I can do that. Focusing on work will be good.” Shifting her gaze once more to the counsellor, she added, “If that is alright for you?”

~Ensign Iyun, Scientist

OOC: Sorry for my absence. Things got busy irl for me :)

IC:
Solal had stood by silently and out of the way while Doctors Tija and Grayson treated the others. It was only at this point that the half-Vulcan spoke up. “I can expect things to return to normal then?” He asked. He had simply been observing them thus far, after the anti-fungal made his temporary job as Lunatic Baby-Sitter irrelevant, a fact which did not upset him in the least. In contrast, he looked forward to getting to know these people in their normal, logical state of mind. “And if there is anything I can do to help out, do tell,” He added.
