For a moment Dira was just glad they could both be impractical and impulsive, even if it was briefly. She knew that outside those doors was a station still in chaos and a situation that demanded her full attention. She was treating this moment with Zoi as a tiny reprieve. “Do I have to?” she said petulantly before breaking into a grin.

She returned Dira’s grin with one of her own.

She sighed slightly. “In here is quiet. I had the Infirmary give me a neuroblocker earlier but it’s nearly worn off. It’s calmer out there than it was but I can’t say it isn’t distracting. If I seem off after we leave, that’s why.”

Zoi nodded. She would be less distracted by a good margin. There was something to be said with the odd and instinctual insights she received as a consequence of her association with the Nexus, but she was not fully telepathic or empathic and rarely had to deal with the full weight of those abilities.

Donning her own rebreather again, Myqian gave a nod and stepped back out into the fray.

She didn’t know what to expect, but she was alert and ready for anything as they stepped out together.

Haven, CoS

The corridor was quiet, despite the mild chaos that still reigned elsewhere. Dira could feel it pressing slightly, but it wasn’t nearly as overwhelming as it had been before. “We have the rebreathers, but if at all possible, avoid physical contact with anyone just in case they are infected. The fungus seems to transfer most easily that way, or so it appears. But it’s in the ventilation system, so Bob, Oscar and the rest of the team are going to have a hell of a time helping get the entire station clear. If we even can.” She looked at Zoi as they strode purposefully towards the lift. “It shows some sign of sentience. I’m hoping when we get to the Infirmary science and medical will have had a chance to get a better understanding of it. The captain is there also.” Gone was the soft spoken woman who had wiped Zoi’s tears, and while she was no less warm, Dira was all business.

Zoi sighed softly. So, no touchy. She nodded, pulling out her phaser and setting it to a light stun. Better for the person to be asleep during all of this than continue in the madness. She automatically took the lead, far more expendable than her XO. “Sentience? Interesting. Well perhaps that will be the key to solving all of this. Instead of killing it off, which by all accounts would be a lengthy and grueling process. It would be far easier to ask it to leave.” She had read pandemic scenarios where the contagion was airborne and how that could decimate a population on board star ship and base alike. At least with star ships that were smaller, they could go into atmosphere and purge. The process still took time, but it was a lot easier.

Haven, CoS

Dira nodded. “I would love nothing more. But it will be hard to communicate with something if we’re all constantly losing our minds over and over. There’s a balance we have to strike between protection of the crew and protection of this lifeform.” She gave Zoi a lopsided smirk. “But I guess that’s why they give us command folks the extra pips and red uniforms.”
