Octavia had still yet to find a study she wanted to Major in, there were several she liked the idea of but none which would motivate her to get out of bed at 0300hours or Inspire her to be the doctor she wanted to be. Her next victim was Lieutenant Segal, the ships Immunology and Oncology specialists. She hadn’t looked into the subject in depth besides what was required of her during early exams, which means she did have a good enough understanding of the topic but not enough to choose it as her speciality.

She had asked the computer where the Lieutenant was and now found herself in the ships larger community observation lounge. She spotted him quickly, not many crew members in at this time.

“Excuse me Lieutenant Sega?” She asked waiting patiently.

  • Crewman Octavia Raain.

“Solal, please.” said the half-Vulcan, turning away from a novel to look at Raain. Though he had an earthly surname, he preferred to simply use his first, like Vulcans who usually didn’t have surnames.

Right, Vulcanised first name she reminded herself committing the name to memory. Solal was ofcourse taller than she was which meant she had to look up at him. He had the traditional tell tale pointed ears and a greenish bronze colour skin to him which made it appear as if he was under a constant moonlit sky next to the Lake Merced Park.

Solal had not been much into the book anyway, it was a fiction he had been recommended, and he didn’t much see the point in fictions. So, he was quite alright with Raain’s distraction. “Is there something you wanted?” He asked.

Snapping out of her evaluation of him she smiled again, “Actually yes. I am trying to find some people who would be willing to teach me. I’m in the process of requesting residency student status here on the ship and it will go alot smoother with people who are willing to vouch for me. I have decided what I’m majoring in but I’m only in my second year which means I have to still study in them all until I have chosen one. I was told you’re the ships Immunology and Oncology specialist?” She hoped she’d found the right person at risk of looking silly.

  • Crewman Raain

“Your information would be correct.” said Solal with a quick nod. He quite liked his own specialties, immunology because it proved infinitely interesting and oncology, more a logical choice. “If you’re interested in either of these specialties, know that immunology has many interesting pathophysiologies and oncology an interesting history.”

She nodded, luckily she understood what he was saying. it was nice for once that someone wasn’t talking about her being joined. “Oh yes, I understand that and honestly its one of the fields not made redundant by modern advances in technology. It’s an uphill battle of repeating and renewed fights against undiscovered and sometimes previously though inert strains. Something I am interested in if you’d be willing to take me in as a student that is.” Octavia’s spoke quickly and concisely, it was clear she was excited about it.

Solal gave another nod. “That it is. And the immune systems of both humans and other species are always changing, especially as we come into contact with new diseases.” He said and then after a short ponder added, “It would be quite acceptable to take you on as a student, crewman. Teaching others is a necessary task, and many would consider, an enjoyable one.” He hadn’t considered teaching someone before but the prospect was not intimidating to him. Actually, he would be glad to talk to someone who seemed nearly as interested in these subjects as he was.
