Finished with the senior staff Ensign Charlie headed to the Hanger bay to meet with the rest of the crew. Her grin was still in place and she swished her long blonde hair in the sort of way only the perpetually bubbly individual managed.

She arrived and nodded to the NEs set up at tables and made sure all was ready to be distributed

Garion made good time as he jogged through the decks of the starbase. He had carried heavier burdens than his rucksack during his Land-based Survival in Desert, Ocean, Jungle, and Moderate Conditions course at the Academy and he was in good shape, so he wasn’t too winded by the time he arrived at Hanger bay six.

He looked around as he arrived and saw NEs working and the bubbly ensign that seemed to be organising everything.

He approached her and said, “hello, I’m Ensign Garion Rivanson, assigned to security on the Ogawa. Are you Ensign Charlie the Head of Relocation and associate in Human resources?”

  • Ensign Rivanson, Sec JO

Ensign Charlie beamed at the new arrival. “Yes!” she said happily “welcome, there are some refreshments over there and some snacks over there while we wait for everyone please relax and enjoy for now.” she indicated two other tables with drinks and food laid out. There were also balloons around the room like some sort of celebration. There was even a cake.

“Thanks Ensign Charlie,” Garion replied, “and if I can assist with anything, please let me know.”

He went to the table indicated and picked up some fruit and a glass and filled it with water. He knew what he could eat and what he couldn’t eat. If he had the sweets, he’d just have to work extra hard tomorrow to take it off.

Next to arrive was a petite Bajoran woman dressed in the colours of the science department. She carried a large duffel bag over her right shoulder and only walked a few steps into the hanger before looking around shyly. If only there were more people here already and she could sort of disappear between them. Oh well, there weren’t and she really needed to learn to be less anxious. So she took a deep breath and then started to make her way towards the ensign who seemed to be in charge, while holding onto her duffle bag with trembling hands.

~Ensign Iyun, Scientist

“Hi!” Ensign Charlie beamed and indicated the rest of the NEs and other junior officers who had arrived so far. “Welcome. There are some refreshments over there and some snacks over there while we wait for everyone please relax and enjoy for now.”

“Thank you,” Riani replied with a soft and a little shy smile. For a little while she remained close to the door, but eventually she pushed herself out of her comfort zone and made her way towards the tables with the refreshments and snacks. Picking up a bottle of water, she let her gaze travel trough the room. Son many new faces! Hopefully the science department wouldn’t be too large and she’d be able to find her place among her new crewmates.

~Ensign Iyun, Scientist

Just then the doors opened again and a medical officer, dressed in the white uniform entered. For a moment she paused in the doorway, taking everything in. It didn’t take her long to spot the officer who seemed to be in charge. Making her way towards Ensign Charlie, Tija mustered everyone else who was already present.

Gerald entered a short while afterwards as he had been on a duty shift and the streaks of grease and a few sprinkling of metal shavings indicated he hadn’t just been relaxing at a console. New ships always had quirks that needed to be ironed out and this was a case where the plasma injectors needed just a little more than some coaxing to reach proper alignment. And when I say more than just some coaxing I mean a full rebuild with a fair amount of swearing thrown in. He breathed a sigh out as he made his way into the room. Normally eyes would linger on him given the nature of his implants but he was far more used to it now and made his way to the sign in desk.

Hopkins, Eng

“Hi welcome welcome, ” Charlie beamed at both doctor and engineer. “Please relax and make yourselves at home while we wait a few more minutes on some others and then we’ll get started.” she indicated the refreshments. “Please help yourself.”

Ensign Charlie

Nodding kindly Gerald said in his usual static filled electronic voice, “Thank you ma’am I appreciate the hospitality”

Later than he had wanted to be, Solal headed in, wearing the new blue Medical uniform. He nodded a ‘hello’ to Ensign Charlie before glancing around at everyone else in the room. The new ship was difficult not to be at least a little excited about, even for him.

~ Solal, Doctor

Lena was not far behind Solal. She approached Ensign Charlie and waited for clearance to board.

-Nurse Lena Khev

Gerald made his way towards the cake, something he’d always been a sucker for and although he might not have full range of taste, sweet was one he surely could enjoy. He grabbed a slice and took a small bite as he wandered the room, his uniform far more unkempt from the work he was doing prior than anyone elses.

Hopkins, Eng

Charlie beamed at Nurse Khev and waved her inside. “Come in! Please relax and enjoy refreshments while we wait to check in.” she said

Garion watched as he was joined by others of various races - Bajoran, someone who was at least partly Vulcan … and wait, was that a Romulan? But the one who interested him the most was someone who seemed to be human, at least at one point, but now seemed cybernetic and he seemed to like cake. Well, that was something that Garion could appreciate at least on special occasions, and a new ship was definitely a special occasion.

As the cybernetic man walked the room, Garion approached him and nodded respectfully to him.

“Hello Oji-san,” Garion said to him, “are you enjoying the cake? I’m ensign Garion Rivanson, from Security, but most call me Oz. I’d offer to shake your hand, but we both would probably prefer not to have the cake down our uniforms.”

  • Ensign Garion ‘Oz’ Rivanson, Security

Gerald heard a voice behind him and turned with a bite of cake in his mouth. He wanted to reply but continued to chew and swallow, leaving a slight pause before saying, “Pardon the delay there Ensign Garion, I’m Gerald Hopkins, good to meet you.” He said, his voice mechanical and calm, although he was hard to understand as he sounded more like an Atari ST than he did anything from this century. He sighed and held up a finger to indicate the man to wait. He set down the cake and pulled out a small tool from his pocket and prodded a few places on his throat plating that released the tension. He pulled gently with the tool and it released, the mechanism flickering as he stood there, neck open to the internals of his circuitry as he fiddled with the relays before hitting it on the table and it lit back up. He inserted it again and used the tool to seal it back and he said, “Ok, testing” His voice was still a little synthetic sounding and there was some static but it was far more understandable.

Garion watched in amazement, hoping his bottom jaw wasn’t hitting the floor as the other man carried out some self repairs.

“Alright let me try that again.” He said as he took a breath, “Hello Ensign Garion, I’m Gerald Hopkins over in engineering I’m sure you could tell, good to meet you. I am indeed enjoying it. Not too much I can taste these days but sweet is still one of them and I do enjoy it. How are you doing Oz? Liking the new ship?”

Gerald, Eng

“Hello Mr Hopkins, yes I’m liking the look of the ship so far,” Garion replied, “sorry for staring, it is rude, but I’ve heard of Commander Data and studied the reports of his and Enterprise D’s encounters with Lore, the various encounters with the Borg from across the Federation and other species, and also Voyager’s meeting with the Automated Units in the Delta quadrant, but I’ve never met someone with so much cybernetic enhancements on their body. I’m sorry.”

Duvosa walked into the room, and then stopped dead in her tracks when she saw the tables set up. There was even cake. Was this some sort of a joke? A party, complete with cake. It was as if someone knew exactly how to get under her skin. After what she had endured with that dreadful tea party…

She marched over to the woman she presumed was the HR representative. She purposely stood with her back towards the tables containing the refreshments. “Lieutenant juinor grade Duvoa reporting.” She said flatly.

-Duvosa, Security

Ensign Charlie smiled warmly. “Welcome, please makenyoirselfnqt home we are going to be starting shortly.” she seemed oblivious to the discomfort.

Seeing Duvosa enter Riani felt the blood drain from her face. She hadn’t talked to the security officer since that dreadful day and thus hadn’t apologise to her yet. Something she felt like she not only should and wanted to do, but needed to do for both of them. So gathering all her courage while holding tightly onto the water bottle she had picked up, and made her way towards her. But when she noticed that Duvosa was heading straight towards Charlie and that she looked … angry, her courage faltered and she stopped dead in the middle of the room.”

~Ensign Iyun, Scientist

And, as if he had planned it (although nothing could be further from the truth), Ensign Iyun froze just as Oscar was crossing the room. This time around, he was dressed in an apiary outfit. He had been informed that there was going to be a buffet, and he didn’t want to miss out. Honestly, though, he felt a little shanghaied into it. He had protested that he was a senior NCO, not a Junior Officer, but apparently, another noncom new to the Ogawa had insisted that he would love to attend. He had been planning on hunting down this Warrant Officer Hopkins and giving him a piece of his mind. Oscar had managed to locate the one Engineering Warrant Officer he had spotted, and was marching toward the Warrant Officer the same way that Duvosa was stalking the HR officer. As such, Riani’s sudden pause caused him to come up short right next to her.

“Ensign, not to talk above my rank, but maybe you could keep going wherever you were headed?”

Oscar Cascarrabias
Engineering

Her eyes wide, Riani just looked at Oscar for a moment. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to cause any inconveniences,” she said shyly and hurried on, though not following Duvosa, but towards the very back of the room where - hopefully - she wouldn’t be in anybody’s way. Her courage to talk to Duvosa gone.

Duvosa made her way to the back of the room, as far from the table with the blasted cake as she could possibly be.

Still alongside Hopkins, Garion saw Oscar pause and say something to an Ensign he almost ran into, he was a non-com, much like Gerald, and Garion said quietly to Gerald, “friend of yours? He seems to be anxious to see you.”

Standing on a random silver box that that had appeared from nowhere Ensign Charlie stood up and called over the assembled mass of people.

Garion looked to Ensign Charlie as he moved closer.

“Good afternoon, if could have your attention. I am Ensign Charlie from HR and it is my privilege to welcome you to the new USS Ogawa.” Behind her a-screen was descending. “If you could direct your attention to the screen behind me for a few moments.”

Garion applauded as the screen descended … he found all this very exciting.

The lights turned down slightly and an old style info film started to play even going so far as to look slightly grainy on purpose. ‘Welcome to the Nightingale class.’ showed across the screen and then Ensign Charlie bounced into the video.

“Hi, I’m Ensign Charlie and I’m here to welcome you to the Nightingale class. Please allow me to give you a quick tour and a run down which will make life on board ship easy peasy!”

Garion watched quietly, and grinned at the sight of the security offices and the gym as well as the holosuits and holodecks on board. It looked like he would be able to work on his katas while on board.

As she watched the video, Riani found herself smiling widely and actually feeling rather giddy when she got a glimpse of the science labs. They looked amazing and she couldn’t wait to actually have a look around and to get to work.

The real ensign Charlie beamed as the video version took the officers on a quick tour of the ship. Fifteen minutes later and the video was done, informing those still awake they were now fully realised on the new ship. The lights came back on.

Solal watched the video with interest, taking in the design of the ship. He didn’t want to be that one who got lost because he hadn’t been paying attention.

“So. If you’d like to come see myself or one of my associates.” she indicated the other officers from HR who had appeared mysteriously around the room. Each held a scanner PaDD and waited by some cargo crates full of silver packs. “We will get everyone scanned in and you are then free to begin boarding the ship.”

Ensign Charlie
HR

Spotting one of the HR people close to her, the petite Bajoran considered walking straight towards them as she really wanted to get out of the hangar. But she didn’t want to push in front of everyone or something like that. So she stayed in “her” corner and let other people go first.

~Ensign Iyun, Scientist

A large NE in operations colours came towards her with a PaDD. “If you wouldn’t mind.” he said in the sort of monotonous bored way of people tasked with this sort of job. He held the add out to scan her hand. Once it did the system registered her scan and the NE read the readouts before handing Iyun a pack with a new uniform, PaDD and a new comm badge, “thats you registered, make your way to the ship. You’ll be able to just board and any items you need moved will be in your assigned quarters by 1700 hours. All the info is on the PaDD.” he moved away to the next person.

“Oh,” Ria exclaimed softly, looking a little startled. “S-sure.” She quickly placed her hand on the PaDD so he could scan it. Taking the pack from him, she thanked him meekly and then made her way towards the exit; relieved that she was allowed to go and yet also feeling awkward to be the first Junior Officer, from what she could tell, to board the new ship.

~Ensign Iyun, Scientist

On the other end of the room, another Bajoran officer had watched the video in silence. She was really impressed by what she had seen and hoped that she would be able to do some work already before she was allowed back on active duty. But first she needed to board and suddenly found herself wondering if she’d be assigned normal crew quarters or if she’d be staying somewhere else. Looking around, she spotted the closest HR officer and made her way straight towards her. “Hello,” she greeted them with a small smile. “I’m Lieutenant Tija Aizala. I would like to board if that is possible. Or do I need to go somewhere else?”

~Lt. Tija, Doctor (med leave)

Ensign Charlie beamed “Hi! Welcome! Yes yes yes, I’ve been expecting you Lieutenant you can scan in here that’s fine Captain Taylor has requested you be assigned crew quarters and privileges.” she held out the scanner and waited for the doctor to put her hand on it.

“Thank you Ensign,” Aizala replied with a sincere smile and then placed her hand on the scanner.

Once it had scanned she handed Tija a pack. “Your new uniform, comm badge and PaDD with all of the details for your assigned quarters and maps of the ship etc. Anything you need moved over?” she asked still beaming like the poster child for a toothpaste advert.

Ensign Charlie and the forces of HR

“Thank you,” Aizala said again as she took the pack Charlie was handing her. “I have two small crates in storage on the Starbase. But I don’t mind taking care of them myself. I’m sure you and your team have enough to do as it is.”

~Lt. Tija, Doctor (med leave)

“Not at all my team are happy happy happy to help.” she beamed even more, a thousand watt smile. Her team didn’t look happy happy happy but they nodded with a slightly bemused smiled at the young ensign and her enthusiasm. “No no, just you go on along to the ship and have yourself a nice your and everything will be where you need it by this evening.” and then she bounced alongmon the balls of her feet to her next vict…crewmember.

“Thank you Ensign. I appreciate that.” Aizala replied with a small bow of her head and then pulled a PaDD out of the messenger back she was carrying. Turning it so that Charlie could read it, she said, “This contains all the information of where it’s stored and how it’s labled and anything else you might need.”

~Lt. Tija, Doctor (med leave)

Once the video had ended, he stood and quickly made his way into line to scan in and board. This new ship seemed quite impressive. Though, Solal had not been around to see the old ship. It had been destroyed before he joined the Ogawa’s crew. Still, he’d heard stories. Studied it’s layout in preparation for his transfer. A slight letdown it had been when he discovered that the ship he had studied no longer existed… however, the updated facilities on the new ship more than made up for the inconvenience to him. Once aboard, he’d want to explore - see where he’d be working.

~ Solal, Doctor

Duvosa made her way to line up with the other crew members who were waiting to get on board the new ship. As she approached the gangway to board the ship, she noticed Riani, who she had noticed before. She had seen the way Riani had looked at her, and observed that the other woman had seemed to want to talk.

“Excuse me,” Duvosa said, standing next to Riani. “Ensign Riani is it?” She paused for a moment, pursing her lips. “May I ask how you are doing?”

-Duvosa, Sec

“Ensign Iyun, but yes,” Ria replied with a shy and nervous smile. Pointing at the bridge of her nose, she continued, “Bajoran. But you can call me Riani or Ria, if you like.” Dropping her gaze she started to fiddle with the tip of her long braid and answered, “I’m okay, I guess. I’m just …” Her voice began to tremble and she had to take a deep breath before she continued. “I’m so very sorry for what I did, for how I behaved the other day in the lab. Can you forgive me?” It took her a lot of courage, but she managed to lift her head again and look Duvosa in the eyes as she apologised. Her lower lip was quivering a little and there were tears glistening in her eyes. She hoped that the other woman would be able to forgive her, but she was afraid that she might not be able to.

~Ensign Iyun, Scientist

Looking around, Garion saw an HR person near himself and Gerald, “you go first, Gerald-san, it would be rude of me to try to talk to them while I have a mouthful of cake,” he said before picking up his cake and taking another bite.

  • Ensign Garion ‘Oz’ Rivanson, Security

As each crew member was scanned in and give their packs Ensign Charlie bounced around happily from group to group. Once everyone had been scanned she was back on her silver box. “Ok hasmanyone got any questions?.”

Ensign Charlie
HR

Not wanting to miss out, Garion raised a hand, when he was acknowledged, he asked, “The program for my dojo back on Earth, would I be permitted to load and run it through the holosuites on the Ogawa, Ensign Charlie?”
