Oscar had managed to avoid his latest boarding physical for quite a long time on the basis that he wasn’t permanently assigned to the Starbase, and had yet to receive a billet on the Ogawa. Now that the vessel had been replaced, thereby leaving the previous McCoy-class Ogawa to forever be the King Grouch II, Oscar had a private quarters, where his new pet fungus was residing quietly along with his large wall of collected detritus. Though he was glad to once again have all of his possessions in one place, he always hated the formalities that came with getting on a new ship. He walked in, isolation suit fully equipped, and looked around for the nearest medic.Esto es un buque médico. Si no puedo encontrar un médico, algo es muy impropio.

EngineeringAlexis turned at the sound of the door opening. “Hello Chief. I’m Dr. Bonner. Are you here for your physical or something more nefarious?” Alexis motioned him towards a biobed.
Lt Bonner, AMO“The physical. What were you expecting, that I was planning on wrecking a brand new medical facility just for laughs?”
Alexis shrugged, “Probably not, Chief, bit it would break up the monotony.”
Oscar went toward the biobed, but simply stood by it. Getting onto raised surfaces in his iso suit was always a bit of a production, and he preferred not to look ridiculous in front of one of the commissioned officers onboard.

EngineeringAlexis followed him over to the biobed and pulled out a tricorder. She knew the difficulty movement could be in an iso suit and said nothing about him standing there. “I must apologize. I am not familiar with all the crew yet. Could you give me your name?” Alexis didn’t listen to crew gossip and she was still making her way through files, and was not familiar with the chief or whom he might be.

“Oscar Cascarrabias, Engineering, Petty Officer First… Sorry, Chief Petty Officer. Still getting used to the rank. Wasn’t my choice to get it, but my superiors seem to think it’s funny to promote me off their boats.”
Oscar wasn’t surprised that he was unknown so far. He had allowed the science department to claim the glory for saving everyone from the fungus that the Grouch was now keeping as a pet in his quarters. Nobody had cared about the vandalism of the previous Ogawa, and some had even found it humorous, meaning that he avoided some notoriety in that area. Whatever the case, he had little time to work up a reputation with the Lieutenant, and he knew that bad first impressions were difficult with boarding physicals. Typically, the bad first impression came from the physician, not the patient. People may have mocked the EMH’s for their lack of bedside manner, but it seemed like more than some of the programming was based on reality than anyone would be willing to admit.
