Dira didn’t miss a beat and shook Elin’s hand in the Human custom. “I did, yes, though I was hoping to catch you at an alright time to say hello. There’s so many new people and I was doing all my initial meet and greets on the starbase that it’s nice to see people in the places they’re going to be working. I’ve done a very small walk through the higher security side but I’d be glad to tour it all with you,” she said with a measure of excitement.

“Shall we then?” Elin replied” I’ve a general idea of the layout from the schematics but that’s never the same as actually seeing it.” She started walking through the reception area and into the treatment areas. “I’ve worked in some amazing facilities in the past, old and modern but I expect this will beat them all.”

Everything from the layout of the areas to the colours on the walls (not the usual standard grey bulkheads) had been all well thought out and that was easy to see as they meandered. “I’m very used to being on starships where the idea of a counselling space is an extra office they scrounged up,” she said with a grin. “It’s nice to have something purpose built.”

“I’ve been there too. There’s only so much you can do in an office.” She paused, enjoying seeing the space and imagining it in use. “This is both functional and beautiful I am glad to see. Too often these kind of spaces are far too institutional. It’s amazing what a difference environment can make in treatment.”

“To think how much better starship crews would have been if they had had counsellors on staff way earlier, let alone facilities even slightly like this,” Dira mused, shaking her head. “After twenty years as a psychiatrist, I have to admit Lieutenant that I’m quite jealous right now,” she said with a grin.

Myqian gave the new COP an appraising look. “How are you feeling about being in a permanent position here?”
