Ria had been about to reply to Octavia when Duvosa appeared seemingly out of nowhere next to their table. With her shoulders pulled slightly up, Ria looked from one woman to the other. Her eyebrows were lightly raised and she had dropped one hand to her lap there she fidgeted with the end of her long braid. Introducing herself when one of the two people she was sitting at a table with already knew her was … awkward and Ria wasn’t sure what to say. In the end she said softly with her gaze fixed on her plate, “I’m Iyun Riani and I’m an astrophysicist.”

“Yes, we have met previously,” Duvosa said, looking at the Trill. “But it is nice to make new acquaintances.”
“I know,” whispered Ria, her voice barely audible, her cheeks pink. She was feeling awkward like she had made a mistake; wishing she had already introduced herself to Octavia before Duvosa arrived or that she had managed to introduce herself to Octavia in a way that would have made this situation less awkward and uncomfortable.
“So Duvosa, what’s your story?” Asked the young Trill, she looked between the new comber and then back to Iyun in a way she reflected Octavias own insecurities the only difference was she’d gotten good at hiding them very quickly, she had to otherwise people would simply see her completely unhinged and that wasn’t good for anyone especially herself.

“My story is long and complicated,” Duvosa said. “I would prefer a different topic of conversation. How are you both finding the new ship?” She glanced between the two women.

Looking up shyly, Ria answered softly, “I haven’t seen much yet. But I love the science labs and the arboretum is gorgeous. I’m glad that there is a place with real plants.” The moment she finished talking, the petite scientist bowed her head again and looked at her lap instead of the two other women.
