Having stopped to check on something before their meeting, Dira stepped in. She might be new to her role as first officer but she was well used to these meetings and to running. At the moment, this was no different than she had done a hundred times in her twenty years as a psychiatrist. The difference being that her team was a larger mix of skill sets and training and she would be supporting Taylor in making critical decisions that would impact hundreds of people. No pressure.

Still, Myqian wore the weight of her role more easily than she had expected. If nothing else, she had a natural confidence that made it easier to walk into this room like she actually might know what she was doing.

Gravitating towards her own coffee she moved to her spot at the table to Willow’s left wishing for a moment that there was something stronger than caffeine on offer. “Morning all,” she greeted with a relaxed tone.

Commander Myqian, XO

OOC: Beat ya to it Linds, but the seat on Cale’s right is open ;)

IC: “Morning, Commander,” Brad said.

Cmdr. Dr. Brad Walker
Chief of Staff

Willow nodded as each crew member entered in turn. “Good morning.” She said.

Once everyone was assembled Willow steepled her hands and said “Well, welcome. I hope everyone has managed to find their way around. Ensign Charlie would like you to let her know if you need anything further.” She cast a glance to the apparent Mary poppins of StarFleet. Charlie beamed at them all and went back to her PaDDs.

Willow looked back to the crew. “ I know we were hoping for something…exciting, for our first mission on our new ship. However we have been given a routine operation, medical in nature but with one small difference. The Ogawa has been declared new territory as far as starfleet command is concerned. They loved the Mccoy but they don’t know the Nightingale…so to remedy this they have decided we will play host to a camera crew who will be…documenting our mission. Command have asked us to ma things…interesting for them.”

There. She had said it. Now she waited for the reactions.

“I thought the soap opera adventure was over.” Drake blurted, upset. His job was to save lives, not create drama for people who lacked the talent to be in his position.

-Dr Drake Marshall

OOC: Ha, that was my exact reaction too!

IC: Brad’s jaw hung slightly open at that pronouncement. He thought he’d been in Starfleet long enough to inure himself against the idocy that came with gold trim on the uniform, but apparently that was as perpetual as the Earth’s orbit.

“And how exactly are we supposed to do that on a shakedown cruise?” he asked.

Cmdr. Dr. Brad Walker
Chief of Staff

The crew didn’t know their first officer extremely well yet, and while Dira thought she had shown her leadership abilities, not many people (aside from Zoi and Bob) knew her extremely well. But by this point they might understand that Dira was a straightforward person with little aptience for dissembling (unless absolutely needed). “Oh for f**‘s sake,” she muttered under her breath. “Where were these camera crews a week ago?” She shook her head.

Willow shook her head, her hair moving along with the motion. “ the direct comment was if we could get some footage of the security team rescuing people for our surgeons to operate on. Romulans rescuing people. Things that are and I quote ‘snazzy’.”

Achilleas grinned in good humor and added his two cents. “I don’t mind at all having some people with cameras observing my staff. But I also have no idea how to make science…” He moved his hands in a ‘jazzy’ manner to accentuate his point. “‘Snazzy’. I’m more than willing to go on all day about zero-point energy collapsing into a localized singularity event and the aftermath on subspace frequency disruption, but let’s be honest… no one besides a scientist or a comms officer is likely able to stay awake during that seminar.”

CSO Petrakos

“Well, I know how we could do it,” Bob mentioned thoughtfully from his chair. Nobody actually noticed him enter the room or sit at the table.

“There is nothing ‘snazzier’ than a starship entering warp speed, especially a new starship with an extremely complicated propulsion system with extra moving parts. I’m sure we could provide them a glorious exterior shot at a nice angle if we put them in an escape pod and just leave them there while we proceed on our mission.” The engineer managed to say these words matter-of-factually.

“Could be a good setup for a drama, too,” he added as an afterthought.

– Robert Mason, CE

“Hey, now there’s an idea,” Myqian quipped.

Elin placed her glass down, somewhat more forcefully then necessary, as she attempted, mostly successfully, not to spit out her current mouthful of water. Shaking her head, she tried to send a reproachful look the CE’s way but it was ruined by the smile that insisted on sneaking out.

Snazzy drama, Zoi shook her head and looked less than thrilled. Cameras always change the way people act. It is going to be inevitable that someone will mess up due to their attention being drawn by the cameraman or reporter. She wrinkled her nose. “I can’t say no, but I hope they stay out of the way. I would hate for one of them to get hurt because they are too enthusiastic about following the “Drama”. When do we reach our mission objective site? What is going on there?”

Haven, CoS

Something horrible happened in Drake’s mind. If they wanted Snazzy… he could provide something approximating that. And a little more fun for him. A question did strike him though. “Are we expected to narrate our work for an uneducated audience?”

-Dr Drake Marshall

There were a lot of good questions to be asked that she believed they should get answers to but Dira’s mind was thinking about this from the perspective of a new team. “We’re all still getting to know each other yet. I would hate for any misunderstandings to create a difficult work environment because there are camera’s in our faces.’ She was generally unflappable, but toss someone in her face endlessly and even her touted patience would wear thin. “But if this is the situation we’re being dealt, then we’re just going to have to be on our best behaviour, now aren’t we?”
