Solal nodded. “There was no reason to go anywhere else. There were other things I’d rather do. San Francisco was quite different from southern France,” he said. And not in a good way, if one were to ask him. He much preferred the French countryside to the large and chaotic city of San Francisco.

“I had everything I needed or wanted in Greece, well except for going to space and observing all of the fascinating phenomenon. San Francisco was alright I thought. The city proper was certainly busy but the Academy was nice.” Achilleas said as he reminisced. He had gotten along with most of his teachers and was mostly fine with the other students.

The academy had been better than any other school Solal had been to. But he still wasn’t a fan of San Francisco. If only the academy were in Paris… That would be a better place for it. “That is true. I could have been a doctor in France,” he said. Since his parents were, getting a job post-med school would have been easy. Easier than joining Starfleet, even.

“And I could have been… actually, probably not have been a scientist in Greece. There’s no way I could have used anything as sophisticated as a starship science equipment.” Achilleas thought through whether he could’ve been a scientist without Starfleet. Oh he could have gone to the Daystrom Institute or somewhere similar but Starfleet had the most cutting edge equipment and publications.

Solal nodded. “Not dissimilar from my own reasoning for joining Starfleet. It offers opportunities to work with situations impossible to come across on Earth.”

“Great minds think alike.” Achilleas smiled as he said. “I might’ve been happy just staying home and tending the olive farm with my family, but my parents and grandparents are well taken care of by my siblings. I just wanted something more then that. Maybe I’ll go back to it like a prodigal son or something, but for now I intend to explore my possibilities.”

Solal shook his head. “I cannot see myself returning to Earth. Except, perhaps, to visit the Segals.” He replied. He’d live in and retire from Starfleet. What he’d do after, he had no idea. But he was still young, especially for a Vulcan, and he had a lot of years to figure that out.

Achilleas quirked an eyebrow. “Seeing as how I just left Earth I’m certainly not in any hurry to go back. Though I’m sure my family would like me to call home more often, but I hope they understand my need to find myself while I’m gone. Though I still haven’t informed them of my dating Riani or who she even is. I’ve been so… hesitant to do so. I’m not sure why exactly, though maybe bringing family into the relationship will be like upsetting some sort of balance.” He sighed at this point. “I need to introduce her to you first though.”

Solal had never understood the nervousness around introducing significant others to one’s parents. Perhaps he could see why one might not do it right away, humans broke up and got together like an earth feline chose a place to sleep. Inside, outside, over there, right here. They were together, they weren’t together, now they were again. It made no sense to him. Finding “the one” was frequently alikened to winning the lottery. He had read about the Vulcan rituals. Betrothed to someone you’re likely to want to be with, someone who was logically a good choice for you. What an efficient way to handle things.

Of course, considering he had grown up among humans, he was quite used to their ways, and so, instead of arguing logical or illogical, he simply said, “It would be most pleasant to meet her. Perhaps we can schedule something in, soon.”

Achilleas nodded his head. “We definitely should.” He looked around the concert hall again and reflected. “This is a nice setting. It might be fun to have a simulated orchestra accompany us next time.”

CSO Petrakos

“It would be interesting to experiment with,” Solal agreed. “Next time will not be too far in the future, I hope.”

~ Lt JG Solal, Doctor

Achilleas nodded before smiling. “I think we can work something out in the near future. We should probably get going though. I’ve got some stuff to get to.” With that said, he turned and walked towards the holodeck exit.
