“The computer would definitely be able to create a situation pertaining to those fields,” Solal said. “Trying them out holographically is a good idea.” He used the holodeck himself, to practice running emergency drills. It was a good way to keep himself on his toes. He knew pharmacology was the study of medicines and how they would affect a body. And gynaecology the study of women’s health. In pharmacology, he figured a situation could be manufactured in which knowing specific details about medical compounds was critical to the case. And gynaecology could be like family practice but there could also be gynaecological emergencies. It was a wide field.

“Exactly,” Aizala nodded. “The question is: Do I want to go for a more everyday type of situation or an emergency scenario? Or both? Both fields offer a wide array of possible scenarios. I can’t run a simulation for all of them if I ever want to make a decision. But which ones will be the most helpful in regard to making an informed decision,” she mused.

“Four scenarios isn’t too much. The everyday tasks can be very different from the emergencies in both of those fields,” Solal said, after a moment’s thought. “If you were to do both scenarios for every field, we’d be here until I died.” A joke. A rarity coming from Solal. Though he was half Vulcan, he was expected to live the Vulcan lifespan… and he was only twenty eight.

“I didn’t plan to run a scenario in every field. But I think I should do more than one emergency and standard scenario each in the two fields I’m currently favouring,” Aizala replied simply, clearly not realising that he had made a joke. Whether that was because she didn’t expect a half-Vulcan to make jokes or because she just didn’t always get jokes would be anyone’s guess.

He nodded. Solal did not understand how running more than one of each type of scenario would be helpful, but once again, he chose not to argue the point. “One must start somewhere, to get anywhere useful,” he said, meaning essentially that she should just pick somewhere to start and go from there, because in his mind, standing around thinking about what to do wouldn’t solve her problem very quickly.
