Myqian had the image of engineering on the old ship in her mind when she had gone to their CE to tell him he didn’t have put it all back together anymore. “Understatement there Doctor Drake,” the XO said more softly though there was still a smile on her face.

She studied Drake for a moment. “Have you been out of the medical facilities much since we boarded?”

Commander Myqian, XO

“Other than to my quarters, no. It hasn’t really occurred to me.” He checked his watch. “My shift is almost over. Perhaps I can join you exploring the ship a bit.”

Dira grinned. “Absolutely! It’s becoming my new favourite past time,” she said with a light laugh. “Have you eaten recently?” she added as an idea started to form in her head. Drake hadn’t struck her as a particularly social type in their first meeting, but she was delighted to be asked. Some days being the first officer meant some of the crew were too nervous to do so, but then again, Marshall was a senior member of the medical staff and had that background in common. Maybe the red uniform isn’t so scary after all.

Commander Myqian, XO

“Come to think of it, I’m not entirely sure I ate my lunch today. For a physician, I have some remarkably unhealthy habits.” Drake smiled a little before walking over to a console and tapping a few buttons. He returned and said “alright I should be checked out. As much as I can be.” Drake knew she’d understand that he was perpetually on call as most doctors were.

“It’ll do,” she said, gesturing wth her head for him to follow.

Stepping out of the medical bay, Myqian looked over at Drake. “I figured we could head to the Mess Hall. I haven’t had a chance to actually have a meal there yet. Most of the time I’ve been grabbing something at my desk or in my quarters. They don’t tell you just how much desk work you have to do in Command school. They just throw it at you later and are like ‘surprise!”,” she said with a laugh.

Commander Myqian, XO

Drake chuckled. “I’m sure if the brochure for Starfleet mentioned how much time officers spend filling out forms and reports, not nearly so many people would sign up. I’m very content remaining a Lieutenant for the duration of my service, though I have nothing but admiration for those who can tolerate the desk work.”

“Careful, there’s wiggle room for ranks that don’t have quite as much paper work,” Dira said with a grin.

“I know not every first officer has ambitions of being a captain, is that something you one day hope to accomplish?”

-Dr Drake Marshall

As they headed up to Deck Four, Dira nodded. “One day, yes. I think that was always the goal, but I also told myself going into this switch that if I found myself really happy with the job I was doing as a first officer, or maybe the posting was just that good, then I would let myself be happy with that without there having to be more.” She smiled at Drake. “There’s a lot to be said for being happy where you’re at and ready to change things up if needed.”

Commander Myqian, XO

“I agree. I just don’t think I could give up on being a surgeon. Not yet anyway.” Drake hoped she understood what he meant. “Nothing against career progress, or those who choose that path. I just find more fulfillment in sickbay than anywhere.”

When they arrived on deck four, Drake said “I find myself… having no idea where anything is. I’ve never been around here.” He laughed lightly.
