It had been about two months since Lieutenant Kyle Anders had last stepped onto the deck of a Federation Starship. Anders had been in regular contact with his former shipmates aboard the USS Challenger, making sure that everything with Henry Rodier, his predecessor as Chief of Security, was in order. Though he did appreciate the time to spend with his Aunt and Uncle on Earth, he did miss the idea of exploring the galaxy on the Bridge of a starship. He did have to admit to himself however, that a medical ship was certainly going to be one of his more interesting assignments.
After a quick scan of one of the ship’s map displays just outside the Transporter Room, Kyle hoisted his pack over his shoulder and headed to the Security Office on Deck 10. When Anders arrived, he was surprised to see that the Security Office was so close to the Brig.
Blimey, he thought, I do not envy the poor sod on the night shift in that office if they have any rowdy ‘guests’. As he approached the office door, Kyle straightened his uniform shirt, and annouced his presence, “Lieutenant Kyle Anders, reporting as ordered.”

-Lieutenant Kyle Anders: Security Officer-

The office he stepped into may have been close to the Brig, but seemed to be quite muffled from the areas around it, an excellent security measure should the CoS ever have to have a private conversation within it’s walls. On the wall to the left of her desk was a set of four map displays of the ship, one from above, two from the sides, and one from below. The wall behind Zoi’s desk was filled with plants. She had somehow made a small utopia behind herself, with grow laps projecting healthy light to feed them. To the right of the desk, was a few shelves with pictures of fallen comrades and one in the center that was of a woman who looked very much like Zoi, only older and with darker blonde hair.

Her desk had a few PaDD’s each with their own purpose and a cup of hot dark liquid. Nothing else cluttered its surface. Like everything else in her department; the brig, the main security area and the training space, it was clean and organized. The woman herself had a light skinned complexion, vivid blue eyes and icy blonde hair. She had a runner’s build and strong, flexible hands. The hair was tucked back in a bun that had grown disheveled throughout the day. Between seminars to go over the new ship’s many nooks and crannies and coordinating shifts, she had been quite busy. Zoi seemed unaware of her appearance as she looked up upon Lt Anders entering her office. The Chief of Security gave him a smile she waved to one of the chairs in front of her desk. “Ah Lt. Anders. Welcome to the Ogawa. I trust your vacation was well enjoyed?”

“Enjoyable yes, but I must admit, England has nothing on a Federation ship.” Kyle glanced around at the Chief’s Office, it was certainly clean, about twice as clean as Anders had managed to keep his office during his time on the Challenger. He chuckled to himself and said, “You run a tight… office Lieutenant,” he said with a grin.

-Lieutenant Kyle Anders: Security Officer-

She looked around and gave a small laugh. “HA! I imagine that is because we are on a brand new ship and I feel up to the challenge of the moment to keep it clean and organized. I tend to like things clean when I can but I also understand the value of clutter and chaos. I do like the feel. Organized space, organized mind?” She asked with a lifted brow. Then she reached out to the hot coffee. She had just gotten it minutes before the new security officer had come through her door so it was still nice and hot. The sip of the dark liquid fell right to her middle and warmed her to her bones.

Anders grinned, he liked his new CoS already, “Wish I’d listened to that while I was Chief of the Challenger, will be good to get my hands dirty again mind.” He glanced at the replicator, “May I?”

-Lieutenant Kyle Anders: Security Officer-

She nodded, gesturing to the replicator. “Oh please do.” The fact that he was a chief on an academy ship meant that he had dealt with cadets much of the time. They were of course, a whole different animal to regular fleet ships, but she wondered how different they would turn out to be. She let her mind wander over his service record and thought about where and how he would fit in with her other security crew. The Ogawa wasn’t a high security ship. The drama for security was often minima but vital. How would Kyle handle this new environment?

After he settled with his own drink, she returned the conversation to the department. “I wonder what you think of this assignment of yours. It’s not a chief position. How do you feel about that?”

Haven, CoS

Kyle grinned, taking a sip of the strong coffee he’d ordered from the replicator, “As much as the Chief position was an honour, I’m looking forward to being able to get my hands dirty again.” Anders glanced around the office, “Although I… understand that the Ogawa may not be prone to pirate boardings.” The lieutenant winked and took another sip of his coffee.

-Lieutenant Kyle Anders: Security Officer-

She grinned back and shrugged. “One never knows.” She was glad he wasn’t feeling slighted by his assignment here being under her as chief. It could have easily been the cause of strife within her ranks and she didn’t like the thought of that at all. His words and tone reassured her in this respect and she was glad of it. “We have seen our fair share of action. It just tends to be more.... medically minded. How brushed up are you on the basics of supporting medical in the field?”

Haven, CoS

Kyle awkwardly itched the back of his head, “I must admit,” he began, straightening himself, “I only just barely passed the field medicine exam at the Academy, I at least know to give a medic some space while they work their magic.” Kyle took another sip of coffee and tried to smile through how awkward he felt, ‘Looks like a few holodeck training sims for you lad’, he thought to himself.

-Lieutenant Kyle Anders: Security Officer-

“Not to worry. SInce this is a medical ship, really just an understanding of their basic needs is good enough. We might put you through some extra training for it but not that much. The hope will be that you will not be assisting them much or at all with their medical work. Mostly, we need to focus on their security. It’s a different form of security. We can be doing anything from securing a hospital, to securing a small on site surgical tent. We could be in the middle of a war zone or in the middle of a pandemic. It will be more situational and you will need to understand what is out of place in those environments.”

Haven, CoS

“Seems a lot easier to understand than I thought,” Anders replied with a grin, “Where do I start?”

-Lieutenant Kyle Anders: Security Officer-

“Seems being the operative word Lt. Anders. The differences make it seem more a benign detail but I have found it to be equally as dangerous as doing other types of security work so don’t let yourself think this is a hay ride.” She said in a mildly warning tone. She didn’t mean to kill enthusiasm but she also didn’t want him to mistake this detail as something that would be easy.

“As of right now?” She said picking up a PaDD and scrolling for a moment. “I will have you on Beta shift. Callis is on that shift and has a solid mind though she does tend to like murder mysteries a bit too much sometimes. Jake is a classic jock’s son, goofy and a bit too lazy sometimes. Sully, Lesiv and Rochester are all pretty solid though. I want you to lead the shift for now which means you alternate shifts one on bridge, one on patrol, one in here coordinating movements. You have to lead from anywhere so lets get some practice in for that. On day 5, you will have training.”

Haven, CoS

Kyle grinned from ear to ear, “You can count on me, ma’am.”

-Lieutenant Kyle Anders: Security Officer-

She smiled. “Alright Lieutenant. Do you have any questions for me? I am a fairly open book.”

Haven, CoS

“Only a personal one if I may, do you like Jazz music?”

-Lieutenant Kyle Anders: Security Officer-

“I wouldn’t say I am a fanatic about Jazz, but I do enjoy it. I prefer the Blues. Something about the melancholy and base beats just sings to my soul. Why?”

Haven, CoS
