He came up behind her and put his hands in her hips. He lowered his head to her neck and kissed her softly. “Here… let me.” and he slowly reached over and opened the closure on her uniform top. As he did, he said =/\= Computer, lights to seventy-five percent. =/\= and they dimmed slightly. Another kiss and he asked quietly “That okay?”
A soft breath escaped with his kiss and she leaned back against him and the warmth of his body as she watched the lights dim. She looked around, letting her eyes take in the light and shadow. Quietly she made her request, =^=Computer lower the window shades=^= Now, she couldn’t see the darkness outside. She nodded in answer to his quiet question. “Yeah it’s okay.” She let the uniform jacket slip off her shoulders to the floor. No one had ever asked her if she was comfortable with the lights in a room. Alexis licked her lips and divulged quietly, “I’ve tried to make them lower and can go as low as 45%, but only for a little while.” She closed her eyes briefly when he kissed her again.
“We can keep them wherever you like. My home is your home… right?” He kissed her again, stopping only long enough to send his jacket to join hers on the floor. His hands on her hips, he kicked off his shoes and then pulled off the black shirt. The Mathusian funeral pyre was fully visible now. A towering wooden scaffold- ablaze in hues of reds, oranges, and yellows- surrounded a figure obscured by flame but visible as a silhouette with features barely visible in shadow. But rather than being posed as in pain, the figure stood defiant, as if daring the fire to try and make him scream.
She turned in his arms facing him. “Leave them like this.” And. She smiled it lighting her eyes, “Right.” She just wanted to kiss him and never stop. Her hands began to trace the now visible scaffold, the flames, and then the silhouette. Defiant just like Solomon. She’d seen it before of course but now she saw it. There was always more to notice and each time she learned more about the incredible man standing before her.
Kane held her close and said “I don’t know how we’ll handle this. I’ve never felt this. I was close… once. But nothing like this.”
She shook her head, not wanting to mention the past. “It was never this.” She didn’t know what to say. She wasn’t good with stuff like this. But they were good at it together. She looked up at him as he held her. “How about you hold onto me for however long we both need. Then, later, we find our way together?”
“Well… I moved this far to get right here. Let’s see how far we can go with both of us.” He looked down at her for a long time before he said “You know you don’t have to be scared of the dark anymore, Lex. You got me now… and nothing in the dark is gonna get to you as long as I have you.”
Alexis stared up at him, her mind kicking in a little. “I told Myqian I can’t judge myself by others’ standards, and I don’t think you can either. So maybe we make our own standards for us and we’ll handle this just fine. We got here, right?” She was trying to put the emotional situation to words and she wasn’t great at that. She wasn’t sure she was being clear though.
She tested her head against his chest and sighed, deep and weary and sad. She looked back up at him. “I know. I do, here and here,” she touched her head and her heart, “But it’s a phobia. It’s irrational, there is no logic to it, I have no control over it or my reactions. I’ve tried.” She grew quiet trying to describe what it was like. “There is only paralyzing terror, and the certainty that I....I… will die and it will be slow and painful.... I can’t.....move or run…I can only scream, sometimes.” Fine tremors spread through her whole body, and she blinked away tears, rapidly. She wasn’t in the dark, she was with Solomon, and she was okay. And she would be, she believed him, but she couldn’t, or had never been able to, control it. It would happen, eventually, and she didn’t want him to think it was because she didn’t believe him or she wasn’t listening.
“Easy, gorgeous… easy…” he said as he pulled her tight to him. “I know you can’t control it. I was just letting you know… I won’t let anything happen to you.” He reached down and quickly lifted her off the floor and onto him, wrapping her legs around his waist. He pulled her into a deep, strong, passionate kiss before pulling back and saying “No dark here. Just us. You and me. And that’s just how it will be from here on.” and he went back to kissing her.
“I know you won’t.” Arms and legs wrapped around him, she kissed him. Sinking into him, the world focusing to him and the way he kissed her. She sighed as he started talking again, and she just kept trying to kiss him. “Mmmhmmmm.” Kiss. “Just us.” Kiss. “Okay.” She placed both hands on either side of his face and kissed him, deep, with a slow burn, sinking herself into it and his arms, one hand moving into his hair and the other trailing down his back and up.
A low moan escaped Kane as she kissed him, and his body trembled slightly. She affected him unlike any woman he had ever known; and that both thrilled and terrified him. Part of him tried to balk at the level of attachment he felt towards Alexis… but the rest of him drowned that out in her touch and her words. He walked them closer to the bed and then broke their kiss, looking at her with an intensity that he had never shown.
“I love you, Lex.” and then he kissed her again.
She heard him moan and the tremble that went through him. She wondered if it was her and at the same time knew it was her. She had never felt like this about anyone. She realized and had known for a long time that she had never loved Soulis, she has deeply cared for a creation, a figment. This…this deep soothing ache was unfamiliar and powerful. He made her feel alive and safe and wanted. Not just physically but for all of her self. Alexis was absolutely terrified.
She looked at him and the intensity that rocked her to her core and she shivered in his arms. Lex every time he said it a small grin crossed her face and a blush, not embarrassment but pleasure, crossed her face. “我也爱你 (I love you too).” Later she would ask how to say his name in Mandarin. She kissed him, pausing a moment. “Solomon, I don’t want to think anymore, just feel.” And to prove that point she lost herself in his kiss.
Kane kissed her for a long moment and then broke the kiss and said “Whatever you say.” He fell forward with her going backwards and they landed on the bed. He kissed her again, and soon the rest of their clothes joined their companions on the floor. Thinking was nowhere to be found between the two of them for the next several hours…
Solomon had asked her Distraction? Planning? Or utter physical exhaustion? and apparently they went for utter physical exhaustion. Alexis was curled on her side asleep, head resting on his arm, back to his front. The last three days had been terrifying and mentally taxing. As Alexis had said before REM sleep and dreams were the psyche’s way of working through input the mind couldn’t process at the time.
It was....dark. There was no ambient light anywhere. Alexis couldn’t see, the darkness stretched and stretched, it enclosed her, trapping her and stretched forever without end. There were noises - scrapping, shuffling, scratching, gnawing. Foot steps, pacing around her, just out of touch, the sound almost out of hearing range, and then they leapt at her, and she bit back screams. Whispers and laughter…laughter all too familiar and cruel. Biting, clawing, ripping at her hands, arms, legs. Slicing in the small of her back. She began to shake, soft chocked terrified moans. ‘Hello Alexis. I’m not done with you yet, and I never will be. They don’t want to stop me, it offends their morals.’ She couldn’t move and couldn’t scream. ‘Listen… and keep this in your mind. If you are in trouble, and you can’t get to me? Then I’ll definitely get to you, ok?’ She couldn’t find Solomon in the dark. ‘Remember that… I’ll come get you.’ He was closer…
She rolled in his arms, pressing closer, face pressed between his neck and shoulder. Nothing in the dark is gonna get to you as long as I have you. The strained cries and trembling eased as his warmth seeped into her.
