With a laugh Willow lowered herself cross legged onto the floor by her XO, placing her basket in front of her. “Well…I had an argument with an angry Andorian from starfleet medical via sub space which was cheery. Cai seems to be occupied however playing with the AI system and I have managed to get lost on purpose twice to see what the crew is up to. Also Lieutenants Fitz and Simmons are planning to get married next month. They want to use a recreation space of some kind but didn’t say where.”

“We definitely have options. Arboretum could be nice for a ceremony. There’s definitely space for a reception depending on how many people they’re are planning on.”

“That’s what I said but apparently Simmons has pollen allergies and they intend to be traditional betazed style so that won’t work. I’m going to suggest a holodeck I think.”

She sighed and stretched out. “I love my new chair in my office however.”

Dira smiled. “I’m glad you’re starting to settle in. I know it could be difficult at times to be on a new ship. So let me know if there’s anything you need me to do to help with that.”

“I think I’m good! How was your day?” Willow asked reaching to organise some of the food out of the way and pulling a bottle of sparkling wine from her basket and two glasses. “Synthahol aside it tastes good.”

“Yes, please! And today has been, you know, the usual boarding nonsense. Some officers arrived ahead of their orders, some we weren’t expecting until next week. Oh! And the best part was having some newly graduated ensign report in only for both of us to be confused and find out they were trying to board the wrong ship,” Dira said with a laugh, shaking her head. “I felt bad for them, but thank goodness for our more involved boarding process. Having the scan and check-in with GALEN certainly makes things easier on the whole.”

Opening her cooler, Dira pulled out a container of mixed fruit and a meat and cheese platter with rolls.

Willow filled both glasses and handed one over. “It certainly made things…interesting. “ she agreed, adding some more food from her basket to the blanket.

“Thank you,” Dira said, accepting the glass.

“I might get lost in the medical facilities if Brad will let me.” She confessed.

The XO laughed. “Go for it. I keep saying that I want to keep my license active but already I’m starting to think it’s not very realistic. I mean, when am I going to have time to see patients in a medical capacity on top of all of this,” she said gesturing around them. “What’s your experience been?”

Pulling a face the red haired woman added some meat, cheese and sundries tomato to a tear of bread. “As a new executive officer,I did manage to keep one duty shift, dead hours of the night and early morning, a month. But it made the crew…uneasy having the executive office treat them for things they did during the night. Sometimes on duty… a lot if the time not… eventually I stopped. Unless they needed all hands on deck. As a commanding officer…I haven’t been able to do much of anything but paperwork it seems.”

Dira nodded slowly as she gathered items onto a rectangular dish she brought with her. “I was afraid you were going to say something like that. I mean, I’m skilled and can step in and do field medicine in an emergency, but I’m not the person you ask to do surgery and even in psychiatry I think it was false hope that I could maintain my license. Without keeping up my training, I’ll lose it within the year. Sucks, but I guess by then I’ll know whether I really am cut out for this Command thing.” It pained her to have to admit that but she couldn’t do both jobs, and certainly not on this ship. They had plenty of health professionals. They didn’t need her poking about being nostalgic. this was supposed to be a new start, wasn’t it?
