“We’ll if you find yourself with a bit of free time, which I’m sure you have plenty of, they might appreciate a lesson in the doctor to command path.” Drake shrugged. “It’s funny now to remember being an intern. The surgical attending seemed so old and experienced. He was maybe 30 and had been an educator most of his career.”

“It’s weird to think about. I remember my attending was this older woman who was debating about retiring off and on my entire internship,” Dira said with a smirk. “But I learned so much from her. She was at the point I recently came to where little surprised me anymore. Strange to think about what t would be like to do the same job for forty, fifty years. I just sometimes have to remind myself I did it for twenty. But change is good,” she said sipping on her drink.

“So they say. I can’t imagine doing anything different. Maybe such a time will come.” He sighed. “Eh maybe dealing with a gaggle of interns won’t be worst thing in the world.”

Dira smirked as she sipped from her cup. “I’ll be sure to send some your way.” It would be good practice for him, but at the same time Dira was minded to make sure the teaching side of this Ogawa was up and running smoothly. Mentally, she added it to the list of things to talk to Taylor about at their next sit-down.

“Have we gotten any word what we’ll be up to next?” Drake asked. The Ogawa was slightly strange in its missions, as a medical focused ship they could be sent anywhere.

Myqian shook her head. “Not yet. They were waiting for the rest of the new crew to get checked in before they sent us off on anything. But shouldn’t be much longer now. But after all that time on base, I have to admit I’m itching to get out there and really put the ship through its paces.”

Drake nodded. “It does sound much nicer to be” he gestured broadly “out there. than cooped up at a starbase. Especially with a nice new ship. Wherever we’re going, I hope there’s no holonovels or anything of the kind.”

Dira laughed. “Yes, I’m sure the crew could use a little less excitement, though there are plenty of new folks here that weren’t around for the fun and probably think they missed out on the good stuff.” She leaned in towards him. “Tell me though, I’ve read the reports on the whole incident with the show characters come to life, but what was that like? Did you think everyone was having some sort of delusion?”

“At first, certainly.” Drake nodded, sipping his drink. “But then it seemed more and more people who’d never heard of these characters were seeing them. They didn’t stand out from the crowd on the ship too much visually but they definitely acted like they were in the middle of a soap opera. A strange time to be on the ship.”

“And then you went right into a substance induced hallucination where a lot of people thought they were in child’s story,” Dira said with a laugh and a shake of her head. “Honestly, I was a little thrown off by it all, but at least it hadn’t happened on my first day. That certainly would have been quite the welcome.”
“Any other interesting moments from your career so far?”
Commander Myqian, XO
“Well I’ve been here for about three years… wow three years. Time flies doesn’t it?” Drake sat back and thought about that for a second. “But anyway. I was an emergency surgeon for two years which is as interesting as it is stressful. No two days are the same. That unit did, and I assume still does, amazing work.”
“I’ll have been a doctor for 10 years next year in 2398. It feels strange to get to that point.”
