Walking into sickbay was normal, not being able to see not so normal. “Computer Turn on lights” She knew nobody had been in the secondary sickbay for some time but the lights typically came on whenever she entered. Nothing happened. “Computer Turn on the lights” There was a random flicker of lights and then darkness. “Computer run a level 2 diagnostic of the secondary sickbay light systems” Nothing. “Computer. Can. You. Hear. Me.” The room exploded in red and white light and a loud claxon causing Octavia to step back.

The room went silent again as soon as she exited. “Right.” She stormed towards the door only this time to be met with nothing but metal as she fell backwards onto the floor. Shacking her head and rubbing her nose she groaned. Standing up she felt a crunch underfoot and groaned as her comm badge lay smashed, well crushed on the floor. “There’s no way you’re winning” Time for reinforcements. She thought storming off towards engineering.

The trip didn’t take long her red nose and stormy face meant people stepped aside, nobody liked a short angry teenage Trill. Her mood improved as she entered engineering, “Excuse me?” She called out Comm Badge in one hand.

“Why, what did you do?” came a voice from somewhere off to the right.

If Octavia were to follow the sound then it would lead her to a console, currently scrolling through diagnostic readings. And to a woman in the seat by the console, bright pink hair piled on top of her head beneath a pair of brass goggles, non-regulation brown coveralls coated with oil and grime, and feet shod in a pair of ancient ‘chucks’ and currently propped up on the console surface to the left of the terminal screen.

Only slightly annoyed at the assumption that she had somehow broken the secondary sickbay. “I haven’t done anything its this stupid ship!” She quipped not really meaning her words, the ship in all respects was brilliant and it was her home.

“Something tells me you’re not here to clear that plasma blockage at junction B12,” the woman quipped around a gulp of bitter-smelling coffee.

Octavia scrunched up her face “Ew definitely not!” She answered the smell of coffee coming from the engineer making her wish she had a mocha herself. “Something is wrong with the secondary sickbay it literally just threw and locked me out.” She explained thinking that explanation would be enough to cause some sort of response do doubt she figured system would show it was fine.

“It did, huh?” Meyer replied with an agreeable nod, at odds with the alarmed raising of eyebrows into the hairline. “Does this happen to you a lot? Being thrown out of places?”

Octavia huffed and rolled her eyes, why did she have to find that kind of engineering. “No I don’t actually usually its all open arms and kisses” She retorted uncharacteristically.

“That, I do not doubt,” the engineer remarked with sincerity and a somewhat mischievous wink.

She sensed, however, that there would be no placating this woman with mere words. And anyway, it’s not as if her own schedule was in any way thrilling right now. A casual stroll to the ship’s sickbay offered a decent way to kill a few hours. So long as nobody there tried to make her stay for a damned physical.

“Alright princess,” the older woman got to her feet, “shall we go check out this belligerent sickbay of yours? Let’s see how it likes an engineer poking around in its mechanical guts.”

  • Lt Andi Meyer (Eng)

“That would be great.” She said smiling, at least she wasn’t going to have to explain to someone she couldn’t do her work because she couldn’t get into the darn room to do it. “By the way, I hate being called princess” She added before turning to wait for the Engineer in the coridoor. She wasn’t sure why but somehow her good mood and been turned horrid thanks to a stupid malfunction.

“Fair enough,” Andi’s hands raised in a conciliatory gesture. “How about we stick with names instead then. I’m Andi. Andi Meyer.” She held out a grease-caked palm, seemed briefly to reconsider and withdrew it again to wipe some of the grime onto her overalls. “Oh and, you’ll have to lead the way. I only got here yesterday and haven’t figured much beyond rolling out of a jefferies tube and onto the engineering deck.”

  • Lt Andi Meyer (Eng)

Octavia smiled some of her annoyance ebbing away, sticking her hand out clenched, “Dont worry we can fist bump, I’m Octavia Raain” She waited for the engineer before nodding once, “Well luckily I know where I’m going. So you’re new huh? How did you come around getting posted to the Owwie?” She asked leading them at a relaxing pace towards the secondary sickbay.

  • Octavia Raain

“Good to meet you, Octavia Raain,” the engineer replied with a grin, which faded quickly as she considered the young woman’s question. “I was discovered, is how I ended up here. Ten years of bliss on Karan’ destroyed with the snap of a starship captain’s fingers.”
She sighed deeply, one hand running through her hair to leave a streak of black oil accentuating the pink.
“I was called back into service,” she shrugged an attempt at a more meaningful explanation. “Dragged from my home and my family into the confines of a federation starship. Not that I have official grounds to protest. A contract is a contract, after all.”

Octavia felt terrible for her, she in a way knew what being felt into a contract of sorts felt like even if in some odd way she too had agreed to it in the first place.

Her walking ceased, she moved close to Octavia to whisper quietly into the medical student’s ear. “But nothing in my contract says that I have to comply quietly.”

OOC: Bump

She chuckled, thinking back to how she first felt when she was told there would be no extraction of her symbiote. “Well I hope you shouted the whole place down.” She chuckled again, “I’m sorry you’re being forced to do something you dont want to, I didnt thinking Starfleet and the Federation were like that?” Some species within the federation were but the whole? She couldn’t believe it.
