Preem smiled softly and then nodded in understanding. “That sounds wonderful. A big family then? Truly a caring crew. We can work with that. I assume then that this feels like… home to you then? If yes do you feel this crew can, well, export that warm safety to the Federation, her allies, and maybe even her enemies?”

Dira was thoughtful for a moment before she responded, her dark gaze cast elsewhere. “I think it’s starting to become a home, yes. We’re still in the early sages of settling in and there is a large number of the crew that only just got here. Blending everyone together and getting to that place were a lot of things work seamlessly takes time. But when we do get there I can say one thing for sure. We all have made an oath, both to Starfleet, and in the case of a large chunk of the crew, an oath to medicine and the other health sciences. We’ve made an oath to each other and to our patients, to do no harm, to offer aid to whomever needs it regardless of who they are and whatever politics may be going on. Diplomacy is more than just sending in an ambassador and hoping it all goes well. I believe, and this is just one woman’s opinion, when we offer help in a time of need, offer a hand up when someone is down, we convey the core of who we are as a group of peoples who strive for an ideal. We won’t always get there. Sometimes we’ll fail, and hard. But we try and sometimes, especially in the hard moments? Well, that’s everything,” she said with a soft smile. This wasn’t some pretty little speech. She meant each and every word.

Preem nodded throughout the whole answer making notes as Dira talked and then looked back up and smiled warmly, “One last question if I might, it is kind of a silly one, but if you could speak to yourself as a child, is there anything about this assignment you would tell her?”

“Mm, that is a good question sugar,” the stylist said before taking another big bite of danish and munching on it deep in thought before offering to Tija, “I don’t rightly know. I suppose it is easiest to say he is a good person in his soul. If you need something he will give it to you, he can be giving and demanding at the same time if he makes sense.”

Aizala nodded thoughtfully and then said, “I think I sort of understand how both can be true at the same time.”

She paused, silence settling over her before a wry grin spread across her lips, “And he is such a, what is the phrase, train wreck? You don’t want to watch but you can’t look away.”

GM Wombat

“I see,” Aizala nodded. She understood where the other woman was coming from, even though it didn’t really make sense to her. Her gaze wandering back towards the First Officer doing her interview, she was silent for a few moments before asking, “What exactly is the goal of this documentary? What are you all trying to convey with it?”

~Lt. Tija, Doctor

“On the surface?” the stylist countered. “Well I suppose on the surface it is to justify the production of another ship in her class but knowing Farber he has something else in mind. Oh no he won’t tell you what it is if you ask, so don’t ask me, but he is noodling on something I think.”

GM Wombat

Aizala nodded silently, her expression thoughtful. A documentary to prove why this ship was needed … she struggled to understand that. Not to mention that it made her feel slightly uncomfortable. She didn’t know what else to say, so for the time she remained silent and just watched the interview and her surroundings.

bump :)

The stylist fell silent as the doctor did, her attention turning to the interview as well.

Dira considered Preem’s question for a moment, giving it careful consideration. “Hindsight is one of those tricky things, because where we are now is because of the things we have experienced and learned through our life. Without those, we’d not be the same person. But if I was to tell a young Dira anything, it would be to not lose the sense of magic and whimsy. To be playful and joyful whenever possible. Because on the hard days, during hard times, they’ll be the things that keep you going.”

Commander Myqian, XO

The young assistant wrinkled her nose with a fond little grin. “That sounds amazing. Well Commander, unless you have any closing comments I think we can call it a wrap here. I promise we won’t take anything you say too far out of context.”

Dira shook her head. “No, I think we covered our bases. Thank you,” she said with a bow of her head.”

She stood then and motioned towards the food table, “And do take a danish.”

GM Wombat

With a grin, Dira slipped out of the chair and nodded. “You don’t have to offer twice.” Grabbing a danish, she gave Aizala a wink as she stepped off to the side. She had to head back to work but she’d stick around for a minute sensing Tija was still apprehensive.

Commander Myqian, XO

With a small smile playing across her lips, Aizala looked Dira before then glancing around the cargo bay once more. She wanted to do her part and help. Even if she didn’t see why such a documentary was necessary. And yet she was very nervous about the kind of questions that might be asked. So she remained silently rooted to the spot.

Preem followed Dira over to the pastry table and saw Tija, offering her a small smile. “Ah Lieutenant, are you here for your interview? Did you have a danish?” She paused and motioned to the side, towards the chair, “If you want to take a seat and get comfortable we can have a quick conversation. Hopefully put your mind at ease.”

GM Wombat

“Maybe and no,” Aizala replied and glanced from Preem to the chair to Dira and then back to Preem. She knew she was being silly for feeling so … uneasy about this. After all: what could happen, really? So she took deep breath, squared her narrow shoulders and walked over to she chair and sat down.

Preem smiled warmly at the doctor, attempting to put her at ease.

“Tell me, Doctor. What made you choose the Owie? We are a long way from home after all.” She reached forward and poured herself a glass of water and then leaned back, “And why did you want to become a doctor in the first place? What makes you love it?”

GM Wombat

“That depends on what you consider ‘home’,” Aizala replied softly and then continued, “I actually didn’t choose the Ogawa. After my last posting I had to go on medical leave. I was sent here for recovery and then return to duty on this ship as well. As for why I wanted to become a doctor: I was born on Bajor during the Cardassian Occupation. Where we lived one of the women took me under her wing and taught me everything she knew about treating wounds and herbal medicine. After all, while you need people who know how to fight, you also need those who know how to treat the sick and the wounded. Later I received further training at one of the medical facilities on Bajor before deciding that I wanted to see more of the galaxy now that we were able to leave and pursue any career we liked. So I joined Starfleet.” There was, of course, much more to that, but she didn’t like talking about the traumatic events in her past. And especially not in a public interview.
