The corners of the captains mouth turned inward slightly. As if she had just tasted something sour. “I was afraid you were going to say that. I may have to order her off to sickbay for some ADHD treatments…I mean she appeared with coffee at my quarters this morning at 5am…5…am…I wasn’t even on duty I was going for a run!” She ran her hands through the mop of short red hair on her head, leaving it looking windswept and interesting aka sticking up in odd directions.

Dira snorted. “Setting clear boundaries will go a long way. She’ll probably appreciate them too,” she said before taking a bite of her sandwich. “Just make it clear what is and isn’t acceptable with you and firmly but kindly reinforce those boundaries. She’ll get it,” she said with confidence.

Willow smiled. “I sent her off to keep track of Cai and I haven’t seen her since so I am hopeful he’s giving her a run for her money.” She chewed another mouthful of her food. “Have you had time to visit the recreation areas?”

Myqian shook her head. “Not so much. I’ve been to the Lounge and the gym, but other than that it’s been too busy. I’m looking forward to exploring some more besides just doing rounds and, well, maybe take a certain Chief of Security on a date in the arboretum,” she said nonchalantly, though she avoided Willow’s gaze.

Willows smile became a proper grin for a moment but she quickly schooled her expression. “I’m sure she will love that. Maybe a nice picnic would be a good idea? I hear that the arboretum is very pretty.” She fought to keep the smile from her face and busied herself spreading cheese onto some bread. A few moments of silence before, being unable to help herself, willow added. “So…do I need to send Ensign Charlie to speak to you both with relationships at work forms.”

Though she was trying hard to remain serious, that warm and giddy feeling that swept over her when she thought of Zoi returned, prompting a delighted smile. “Probably,” she said quietly as she popped a grape into her mouth.

Willow chuckled lightly.

Chewing, swallowing and doing her best to figure out how she wanted to explain it, she realized that aside from talking to her father, this conversation made it real. Made her feeling real. “I was engaged years ago, but… Paige died and there’s not been anyone serious since. Willow… I’m terrified and yet, every part of me tell some that this is right, that Zoi is someone I want to spend as much time with as I can. I wasn’t looking for it, and we’ve already had a conversation about professional boundaries, but… I feel like a giddy girl again. And I like that feeling.”

Listening the captain considered her words carefully. Trying hard not to let her personal feelings about her love life and the situation there in. “It is difficult to open your heart again.” She said slowly. “But if it feels right then, Dira, I’m delighted for you.” She then amended “For both of you. It’s an exciting time when a romance is new, I hope you take full advantage of the feeling.” She offered some bread to the other woman.

Aware of the small focused shift in Willow, she reached out and took the bread. “Thank you,” Myqian said, both for the bread and Willow’s words. Did she expect it to be an issue? Not really. And yet she knew that when her and Zoi became more public, they would need to tread with caution. She knew they could handle it though. “Romantic relationships on a starship can be complicated. It’s been so long since I’ve had anything more than a fling, I feel a little like I’m adrift. Maybe it’s because I’m quite a bit older than before. I know I am approaching this with more caution, yes, but also wisdom.”

“Cation is always wise, however people will adapt. And if they have issues they can take it up with me.” She smiled.

It was tacit approval and for a reason she’d examine later, Dira felt a surge of excitement run through her.

“What about you?” Dira asked gently, unsure whether their new working relationship was too new still to get this personal. Her instinct was that it would be alright though.

This seemed to startle Willow slightly. “Me? I’m not sure I’m ready for a relationship again.” She lowered her gaze and sighed. “In fact Im not sure if my previous relationship is over or sort of hanging in the voice of nothing and something all at once. I…it’s complicated.” She said her thoughts drifting to Doug.

Dark eyes taking in her captain and (she hoped) friend. “Oh? You can talk about it with me if you want to. But you don’t have to, of course. But I’m pretty good at giving perspective, or just listening when needed.”

Willow seemed to consider her next words careful,y as she busied her hands with the task of building a sandwich like snack on a cracker. “I was engaged. Bit of a whirlwind romance really. We met and moved in together within a year…engaged soon after. He’s at medical on Earth. When I was called in and offered the refit if the McCoy to test the waters as it were for this beauty…” she looked around her appreciation clear on her expression. “Well I never thought I’d be offered the chance to serve as a commanding office again…I agreed on the provision I could take Doug…” she paused. “That’s him…Commander Doug Greene, anyway…on the provision I could take him and Cai with me. He’s serving as an attending in emergency medicine at starfleet medical. He was my first choice for chief of staff…but he did t like that idea and well.” She looked at her snack, appetite gone suddenly. “ let’s just say we argued…and I left. He has t returned any of my messages or letters.”
