It wasn’t a difficult thing to do, apply for a position. She didn’t have to attach her service record or her educational credentials. They were already part of her file. The only thing she had to upload to it was the transfer approval Kane had signed. She updated her resume with the work she’d been doing in R&D, what she was allowed to share anyway, and then with a breath and a smile she submitted her application for the AMO position. And within moments it would appear along with any other applicants on Myqian’s terminal.

About half an hour later, Myqian sent a quick text message that Alexis should drop by her office as soon as was feasible. Nothing more, just the invitation.

Commander Myqian, XO

Alexis looked at the message, sent an acknowledgement, and went back to work. She couldn’t afford for her attention to be split at the moment. 20 minutes later she was finished and put her samples, compounds, mixtures, and notes away in locked cabinets. She locked her lab station down and excited the R&D lab. She was not looking forward to this meeting. She and the XO didn’t get along or see things eye to eye. Alexis was willing to admit that it might have something to do with the XO being part Betazoid. They always seemed to assume that because they could hear her thoughts they understood how her mind worked, and they didn’t. Alexis didn’t have any good experiences with telepaths to temper her gut reaction, but she was going to have to do just that. She took the turbolift from deck 8 to deck 1 and around the outside corridor and pressed the chime to Myqian’s office.

Busy reading through departmental reports, Myqian’s gaze flicked up at the presence she felt moments before the chime rang. “Enter,” she said, her voice relaxed, even as her eyes began to skim lines on her screen.

She lifted a padd, eyes sweeping over that before looking back at the door. “Come on in and have a seat,” she said, gesturing to the two chairs in front of her desk. “What can I help you with Lieutenant?”

Commander Myqian, XO

Alexis entered, formal as always, her mind nothing but a jumble of calculations, surgery techniques, current experiments, and…choices for a new dog toy?? Bonner moved over to a chair and sat, posture perfect, hands in lap. She was careful of her inflection. She and Myqian didn’t exactly get along or understand each other. “You asked me to come to your office, Cmdr, but I would assume it has to do with my transfer and application for the Assistant Chief Medical Officer Position.”

Right, she had. Inwardly, Dira sighed. She was still not entirely on her game and despite trying to give herself a lot of leeway, it was grating on her nerves bit by bit. But that wasn’t Bonner’s problem, if if the woman’s situation had triggered a slew of events that Dira couldn’t escape from. “Right,” she said, her tone a titch softer. “It does.”

Myqian gazed at Bonner, her dark eyes intense. “I was… surprised to see you request. Why do you want the job again?”

Commander Myqian, XO

Myqian’s slip didn’t really register as anything more than being busy for Alexis. She didn’t consider the mental state of those around her unless she was actually close to them. For all Alexis knew Myqian called her there because of what she and Solomon were up to, or because she wanted to make Alexis talk about ‘all the things she was dealing with but didn’t want to and couldn’t hide from.’ Alexis wanted it to be about the AMO position. So when Myqian confirmed that Alexis felt some slight tension leave her.

Keeping her posture and still mindful of trying not to sound like a know it all or ‘superior’ as others put it. “I never wanted to give up the position, but circumstances were that I was specifically requested for my expertise. I didn’t think the project would keep me away for as long as it did. That project derailed my career and I would like to put it back on track. I am an excellent doctor, and I was learning quite a bit from Dr Walker, and I would like to continue.”

As much as they could dance around the topic, they’d have to address it one way or another. She certainly wasn’t out to punish Bonner for things she had no control over, but putting in in the chain of command required things of Alexis that Dira was slightly uncertain she could handle. “And this project, your research. It was rather all consuming. I know before you were splitting your time, but we have a full crew complement now. More will be asked of you as the assistant to Walker. And with the… security breach, I am concerned about how that is going to impact your ability to do your job. Are you truly up for it?” The thing was too, that Alexis couldn’t lie to Dira, and she really did want an honest answer. Not platitudes.

Commander Myqian, XO

“While I was gone yes, the project was mostly what I worked on. When I was here I was not splitting my time. Ever tried to get me to work on an additional project while we were on the Star Base, I refused. It would have interfered with my work as AMO. The security breach is being handled by intel and Cpt Taylor is aware.” That all was true and Alexis made sure to only focus on the truth of the words. She wasn’t lying but information about the project and the security breach were ‘classified’ and though Myqian could read her thoughts (something that made Alexis’s skin crawl) she was ordered to do her best to not allow the information out, on purpose or accident. “If you are concerned about how this problem will impact my work, I would ask if you have any complaints about my work since the security breach? And if I am up for it, I believe so. I am still the same person, the same doctor, the same officer. Dr. Walker never expressed any dissatisfaction with my performance when I was AMO before, except that he wanted me to make sure I didn’t work myself too much. I intend to put the same dedication and drive into the position that I did before. If you have a more qualified candidate than myself or you feel I am not even a consideration, I accept that and will continue my work in medical research with the same dedication and drive.” There was no deception or pride to Alexis. She spoke the truth even if she couldn’t provide Myqian with details. She wasn’t looking to prime Myqian’s pride or brown nose. She simply knew she was an outstanding doctor, that she worked as hard, if not harder than everyone else, and was passionate about what she did.
