Laurali had arrived on a shuttle less than 30 minutes ago. She dropped her belongings in her quarters and headed for the Chief of Security’s office to report for duty. Her transfer orders in hand. She rang the chime and waited for the Chief to allow her entrance.Laurali was a rarity, she had long red hair (naturally red hair) that she often left in a long braid down her back or pinned in a bun. She was fair skinned with freckles scattered across her face. What made her a rarity, was she had not initially been interested in security, she actually enjoyed philosophy and the more deep thinking aspects of life…she found herself in the security department and even though she was not following the philosophy track, she found that she was a good security officer and was able to use some of the philosophy thoughts with people she came in contact with and thus avoided an armed intervention. She definitely never saw herself serving aboard a ship, much less the Ogawa. She had held this ship in awe during the academy, hearing of the things that they had done and the lives that that they had impacted.
When she saw the opportunity to transfer from the Michigan, she took it, with the expectation that she would not be transferred and now here she stood....

The door finally opened as Zoi stepped up to it. “Ah! Ensign, welcome to the Ogawa. Come on in.” She said politely and with a smile before moving back inside her office. There were a few pictures up of her and her mother, but most of the walls were organization boards and the wall behind her desk had a screen with the ship blueprints on it. “I apologize for not answering the chime immediately, I was just finishing a transfer of high clearance paperwork to Star Fleet. I am Lt. Zoi Haven, your Chief of Security. I hope your flight in was easy.”

Laurali took in the office and Haven herself “Pleased to meet you ma’am. Ensign Laurali Breeden, transferring from the USS Michigan.” She said and handed over her transfer orders “I understand ma’am. I didn’t mind waiting.” She said stepping further into the office and standing at a loose attention. She was excited to be aboard the Ogawa but tried to keep that under control.

As expected of any Ensign transferring to a new assignment, Zoi felt the wash of excitement from the young woman. She smiled warmly and took the PaDD with the transfer orders so she could confirm the transfer complete. Zoi stood at an average height for a human woman and her build was athletic as one might expect from a security officer of her experience and rank. Her blond hair was up in a french twist with a few tendrils escaping around her face to frame it. Her intense blue eyes scanned over the orders and then she applied her thumb print.
She looked up and took a seat at her desk. “Alright Ensign. Welcome to the Ogawa. You might already know some of this so bear with me as I give you the basics of our ship. This is a Nightingale class medical cruiser. Our primary mission is support, rescue, and intervention where necessary. We are a mobile medical facility that can handle physical, emotional and mental trauma. The ship’s current complement is 434 souls and one therapy dog. You’ll have time to learn the ship’s layout, defensive and offensive capabilities and your role in them soon enough so don’t worry too much about what you don’t know.”
“I want you to get to know me a bit so here is some things about me. I am 98 years old and despite looking human, I am El Aurian. I am very close to my mother who I love dearly. I love running. It’s my favorite form of work out. I am very proficient in several forms of martial arts and I take several types of dance lessons on the holodeck to increase grace and body awareness. I am an avid gardener and I love food… pretty much all food.”
“Now, how about yourself?”

Laurali nodded acknowledgment of the information and thought about her answer “I’m originally from PA on earth. I’m the eldest of three kids, my younger brother is autistic so I have had to learn alternative ways of dealing with his behaviors.” She said “I enjoy reading and fencing” she said

Zoi had to think for a moment about what PA could be on Earth and then remembered that each state in the Northern Americas had an abbreviation. She would confirm this later when she looked at the file for Breeden again. “Good. Fencing is not my favorite swordfighting technique, but it certainly has its advantages. I would encourage you to continue that and of course expand your knowledge.”
“Now as far as what I expect from you in the next few weeks… You will need to learn the layout of the ship as well as its offensive and defensive capabilities. You need to memorize the schematics of the ship and be able to get from place to place using any and all routes. You will dedicate one day per work week to drilling this with your shift lead. We have 6 short shifts, 3 standard shifts, and 2 long shifts each 24 hour period. We rotate personnel through those shifts and days. We also rotate jobs so that you are never going to be stuck in one job forever. I want you to be able to do any security position on the ship or on an away team. As security personnel on a ship, you are technically on call at all times. I am sure the next few weeks will be a little confusing as you endeavor to learn how things operate on board, but I am confident you will get the hang of it soon enough.”
