Once the mobile modules were set up the word started getting passed around that there were hospitals available, people started to come out of the woodwork, slowly at first.
The first few patients were just curious and looking for things like pain relievers and first aid supplies but then the real patients started to show up.

NE Nurse Lampkin was helping with triage when a male, middle aged of average weight and height came in with his leg twisted awkwardly. “I am wondering if you can fix my leg,” he mutters. “I can’t find a job.” She sighed and give the man a yellow card with the word Surgery printed on it.

Next that came in was a female, older, with a boil or some large lump on her neck. “It hurts when I touch it. The camp doctor says if it gets bigger it will start pinching nerves and I could lose feeling in my face.” Lampkin handed this patient the another copy of the yellow card and motioned for both to take a seat to wait.

Lena came out and saw two people with yellow surgical cards. Dr Marshall had instructed her to find the more urgent cases and prioritize them. She decided to go with the boil first. It looked like it might not take as long as the leg. She walked over to the woman and said “Ma’am? Our surgical chief will see you.”

She led the patient back to where Drake was waiting.

“Who’s this?” Drake asked. He pulled out a tricorder and started scanning before either one could respond. “So? Who are you and has anyone given you a diagnosis for this before?”

-Dr Drake Marshall

The woman suffled back to the room or area where they were seeing patients and sat on the edge of the bio-bed. “Romulan boil,” she muttered to Marshall, “Usually it just needs to be lanced and drained but I have been told they are quiet foul smelling.

“That’s accurate.” Drake noted that her demeanor may have been the only one less personable than his. He pulled out his surgical kit and put on sterile gloves. He put a moderate numbing agent in a hypospray and injected it. “A little something for the discomfort.” He then drew a laser scalpel and started working.

-Dr Drake Marshall

She winced reflexively when the hypospray touched her skin but soon relaxed. When the scalpel touched the skin it peeled away just like it was supposed to, but their wasn’t the foul smelling puss Marshall would have expected. Instead what he found was a lump of fatty tissue with what looked like veins growing through the mass. If he was going to remove it, he would need to actually cut back all of the flesh and delicately remove all the blood flow, cauterizing the bleeding. It would likely be a lengthy surgery.

Drake’s eyes narrowed. He reached into his kit and withdrew an electrocautery. “Nurse. Come here please.” Lena came over and they had a brief discussion, before Drake returned to the matter at hand. “Ma’am. This isn’t exactly what it seems. There’s a mass here. In order to remove it safely and for your increased comfort, we’d like to put you under general anesthesia. Not having access to your full records, I need you to tell me if you have any allergies to anesthetic or similar medications.” Lena stood by for the all clear.

-bump-

The woman nodded a little and then said, “Fine fine do what you need. This might be the last time I have access to a surgeon for a while.”

GM Wombat

Drake nodded to Lena, who administered the anesthesia. They stood by for a second, waiting for it to take effect. Once she was under, Drake began cutting back and cauterizing so he could remove the mass.

-Dr Drake Marshall

The patient passed out soon enough, not really any complications there, and the surgery went as well as one could expect. The anesthesia was enough that she would be out for a while in recovery.

OOC: Feel free to describe the surgery in more detail if you wish.

The surgery took a while, just for the sake of care. Drake carefully cut back the skin and cauterized blood vessels as he went. It was a lot of small cuts and maneuvers. Time passed and he finally found he had clearance around the sides of the mass. He cut the mass free and removed it. The last step was to close the wound. Passing over it with a dermal regenerator, and then a little bit of dermagel just to be sure, it was done. The patient was sent to recovery.

Drake removed his surgical gear and then said to the nurse “next patient please.”

-Dr Drake Marshall

Lena left the OR and went to the waiting area. She approached the patient whose leg was damaged and said “the doctor will see you now.”
