Kane stood up; his hair wet from sweat, labor, and the unavoidable contact with the water they had worked so hard to clean up. “Nice. That should supply them for a few months at least… more if they do the proper preventative maintenance, right?” he asked sharply to the two engineers. By now, they knew that Kane wasn’t a complete jerk… but he also wasn’t a kind and gentle person, either. He expected results, and may the gods help anyone who didn’t supply them. But the team at the water plant had excelled, and Kane’s question was meant for confirmation, not accusation.

The engineers washed off their hands and nodded sharply at Kane. It was good work, honest work, and would keep them hydrated for a while. “Thank you chief,” the first said taking the rag to wipe at his neck. “I think we are probably good to go work on other things. Anything else you need from us while we are here?”

Kane looked around for a second and then said “Actually, yeah… there is. We have a good source of potable water, but I don’t see any hygiene stations anywhere. So what would you two think of building some showers? We’d need drainage for waste water, of course… but we can cut that in pretty quick. Think you two have that build left in ya?”

The two engineers looked at each other before the first asked through squinted eyes, “You thinking something scratch built or pre-fab? I think the industrial replicator can create some Pre-fabs pretty quick and we can hook them up probably by end of day tomorrow but if they break, ain’t a lot of easy ways to fix them. Scratch built won’t be as nice but can be easier to repair.”

Kane thought for a moment and then said “What if we do prefab housings and then do universal couplings to attach the water lines? Pressure will be for crap, but they could at least fix them if and when they break by salvaging off of literally anything. And low pressure will help ration water, too. We attach a sonic emitter in the shower head, and the water will be a lot more effective even at low pressure. You two want to head back to the Ogawa and get to work on that? We can reconvene here at 0900 tomorrow.”
